CANWARN

The WEATHER and CANWARN

Similar to the American Skywarn system, CANWARN was created in Windsor in 1987 as a joint effort of the Amateur Radio Community and Environment Canada. Its purpose is to be the eyes and ears in the field for the weather service in times of severe or potentially severe weather.

If a CANWARN net has been activated by Environment Canada:
The Windsor-Essex  Net uses repeater VE3III on 147.060 Mhz. (Alt.: VE3WIN 147.00)
The Chatham-Kent Net (activated by Windsor) is on VE3KCR (147.12 Mhz).
The Lambton County Net (activated by the Sarnia Amateur Radio Community) will be found on VE3SAR (145.37Mhz).

NOTE that unlike the U.S. SkyWarn program, the amateur radio community does not activate the Canwarn nets. This is the sole responsibility of Environment Canada.
