WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FACING CORNWALL?

The community of Cornwall needs to perk up and dust itself off. And not like "Pimp My City" -- bling, bling, shiny new building here and there. Change must be lasting and meaningful.

It would be nice to leave this community better than we found it; a place where there are fun things to do in public like skateboard, hangout, play ball hockey, rock out, plant a garden, meet people or just breathe clean air and chill. Cornwall should be the kind of city that offers people what they really need -- life and more of it.

The community has to leave behind its "take whatever the factory dumps on you" mentality, and the notion that "if you don't talk about ugly things they'll just go away."

The biggest challenge is to get people to do something about it. It's not going to happen by itself.

Let's set the stage with quality education facilities, meaningful jobs, a healthy environment, a people friendly mix of residential, commercial and industrial property that doesn't overpower our greenspace and waterfront.

But don't expect me to do it or your city council -- at least not alone. You and your classmates, your teachers, your families and neighbours all have to do something. Write a letter to the newspaper, go to a city hall meeting, pickup the garbage around your school, put down the game paddle and go hangout with some friends, talk.

It's up to you to make Cornwall the place you want to call home, for good.
