THE WHY AND WHEREFORE
For decades Cornwall Ontario lolled in the haze of stinking polluters; Courtaulds
and Domtar chief among them. That was “the smell of money" they said.
Well the money left and the stinkers ran off to the third world chasing it,
leaving behind them a trail of contamination, the dead, and the dying.
But what looked like the end for Cornwall, was the beginning.
After years of poison pumped into the air, ground and water, we breathed again,
walked by the river and watched the greening of our community.
But free land, and cheap poisoned land – land to
be rehabilitated and preserved for the betterment of our community – are now
the target of developers.
For the sake of our children and their children we can't let it be taken again.
Air, water, grass and sky aren't the property of business or petty private interests.
We can leave this community better than we found it – a healthier
environment, a people friendly mix of residential, commercial and industrial
property that doesn’t overpower our greenspace and waterfront – the kind of
community that draws commerce, professionals, meaningful jobs, and families.
Cornwall can be a city that offers people what they need – life and more of it.
