I haven’t been on SSTV all that long and it was just a mode that I haven’t tried before and was always interested in. When I couldn’t find any more DX to work on the bands I would hear these strange warbling tones and would wonder "what is that". Amazingly you could work SSTV DX but not phone the tones seem to punch through very well. I think any amateur who is into computers should really integrate the computer and the radio (double trouble). Having your computer on the Internet and tied into your radio there is so much to explore. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to do this. There is lots of information on how to interface your rig to your computer on the Internet. Or if you don’t know how to use a soldering iron you can buy everything. It’s more fun to build and you get the satisfaction.
Where to start, Well you have to hook up your computer to your radio through the sound card. This is nice because you don’t need any expensive controllers, TNC’s, etc. I built a pretty fancy interface box that allows me to control my rig with my logging programs, run SSTV and also interfaces my stereo equipment so I can make Mp3’s. I got fancy and modeled everything in Micro-Cap Spice. The best way and most painful is to interface the radio through the ACC connector on the back of the rig. I used old computer monitor cables and DB9 connectors for RF shielding.
ChromaPix is probably the easiest SSTV software to use for beginners. Jvcomm32 is also very good but requires some reading if you really want to get fancy with things. There are also lots of SSTV graphic programs like PixFX 2000, which enables you to do some nice graphics and create overlays. It doesn’t stop here when your have your computer tied to your rig you can demodulate CW send CW, RTTY and also the new PSK31mode. Chromasound DSP for audio great for QRM. There is too much to explore and not enough time to play. All kinds of audio analyzers and signal generators. I use my computers sound card for troubleshooting audio problems in radio’s and stereos. If your going to buy a sound card get a full duplex crystal controlled one they work the best. Maybe you can work me on the bands or on satellite (another thing).
Here are a few pic's I've sent and received. Later……………….

I added a new page of a few QSL's I've collected over the years. Some of the links don't work as I'm just getting all this stuff together.
