OVERVIEW:
The FX137 Valkyrie was the brainchild of Victor von Steil, a
brilliant mechanical systems expert and aerospace engineer stationed at Titan
City during the Exodus War. A fast attack, first strike
fighter was needed to support the very expensive Hammer heavy fighters.
During the darker moments of the war, the Alliance Defence Force had very few
capital ships, and relied heavily on the Hammers as the ADF's main presence in
space. However, due to their mass and slower speed, the Hammers were
better suited as second wave fighters. Thus the need for a powerful first
strike fighter was born.
CAPABILITIES:
The Valkyrie is armed with four heavy pulse laser cannons to allow the ship to destroy enemy targets at a far range. In addition, the Valkyrie is equipped with 4 Gen3x441 laser guided missiles to allow the fighter to engage larger craft such as corvettes and frigates. The Valkyrie sports two Grummond SSD133 Iroquois endo-ecto atmospheric scram engines that allow the fighter to achieve 170 KPH/s. The Valkyrie is equipped with a small warp core, strong armor and energy shields, and has VTOL capability to allow the craft to land on a sea naval vessel. Finally, the Valkyrie is both an endo and ecto-atmospheric heavy fighter, meaning that the Valkyerie has been designed to function as an air superiority fighter as well as a deep space heavy fighter. Utilizing an aerodynamic structure, the wings and front nose pivots down once the craft has exited the atmosphere of a planet to maximize the pilots field of vision, a necessity in space combat. It is of note that this craft will function in light atmospheres that are not nitrogen-oxygen based, but only under it's ecto-atmospheric mode. The Valkyrie is well suited for near-earth standard attack mode since most occupied planets are near M-class.
DEVELOPMENT:
Unlike the United Archadian Republic who has helped the TDF with rebuilding it's fleet via ships such as the TDF-CS-200 "Helios", the Astro Lift Company is a private conglomerate vendor that has committed to providing new fleet solutions to the TDF in addition to it's regular product line and colonization mandate.
ITEMS OF NOTE:
A very new ship, the TDF-FX137 Valkyrie was not completely tested and approved until near the end of the Exodus War. However, the TDF has chosen to adopt the Valkyrie as a first strike heavy fighter as the TDF rebuilds much of lost fleet.
UPCOMING ITEMS:
The Valkyrie is expected to remain in service for many years with the TDF.
