TDF-MC150 "Ticonderoga"

OVERVIEW:

The TDF-MC150 "Ticonderoga" is to date the largest carrier to be designed and manufactured soley for the TDF by the Astro Lift Company. With a compliment of heavy PBC turrets, naval lasers, heavy pulse lasers, missile arrays, spam/anti-spam torpedoes and ballistic missiles, the Ticonderoga medium carrier is designed for both offensive and defensive roles.  The Ticonderoga class medium carrier is heavily armed compared to the other TDF capitals due to it's advanced dual spam/anti-spam power reactors.  As a result, the Ticonderoga is equipped with a large assortment of high-power energy-based weapons, in addition to several advanced shield emitter systems.  The Ticonderoga is a heavily armed, heavily fortified craft that provides good defensive support for the 80-90 Hammer heavy fighters that it may transport.

CAPABILITIES: 

This class of ship can hold up to 300 personnel, and close to 2000 in emergency situations (no fighters). Designed for very long runs between stops, the Ticonderoga class heavy carrier has the capability to not go to a starport for upwards of three months at a time, unless re-supplied by supply freighters.  The spam/anti-spam cores allows for up to two years of normal use before recharging. The first three ships are stationed at the Space Station Intervention, as the M-Tron Republic and TPA discuss expanding the shipyards.  Currently two more Ticonderoga class heavy carriers are undergoing manufacture at the M-Tron Republic ship yards by the ALC.   

DEVELOPMENT:

Unlike the United Archadian Republic who has helped the TDF with rebuilding it's fleet via ships such as the TDF-CS-200 "Helios", the Astro Lift Company is a private conglomerate vendor that has committed to providing new fleet solutions to the TDF in addition to it's regular product line and colonization mandate.  

ITEMS OF NOTE:

Prior to the inception of the TDF-CS200 battle cruiser "Helios" and the TDF-MC150 medium carrier "Ticonderoga", the Constitution class heavy destroyer provided the TDF with the initial military backbone fleet soon after the Exodus War.  Each Constitution class heavy destroyer is capable of supporting two flights of heavy fighters or an entire squadron of light fighters. As time progressed, the mandate for the preservation of peace and the constant threat of war from new factions or races has dictated the need for a new series of carrier that can support a large number of heavy fighters (be it Hammers or Valkyries) over an extended mission.  The Ticonderoga class medium carrier fills this role, but remains a very expensive endeavor non the less.  Hence, upon completion of the five Ticonderoga class carriers, the TDF short-term goal will expand it's light carrier support line and examine the use of "marsupial" designs in the next generation of light fighters to enable many types of lighter capitals to support them.  The first of these series of light fighters will be the new Parasite class light fighter.  

The Ticonderoga class medium carrier is but one of the new ships that the TDF has bought recently. The TDF is appreciative of all new vendors help.  

UPCOMING ITEMS: 

The TDF does plan to expand it's carrier fleet while working with the ALC to develop heavy carriers that can also support large craft such as the field repair of Bailey class corvettes during emergency or war situations.
