Bursary
The South West Area Recreation Guild (SWARG) has developed and promoted a bursary to aid in providing financial assistance to a student from Southwestern Ontario in his or her education in the field of recreation. We are pleased to have recognized and supported the education of students from Southwestern Ontario for 11 years. Students must have maintained a B average while continuing their education in Recreation Studies.

The applicant should have performed some recreation related work in the past two calendar years (volunteer or paid) in his/her community and have demonstrated a keen interest in the community recreation programs.

Only students enrolled in Post Secondary Education in recreation or related fields are eligible to receive the bursary. The student must have completed one full year and be enrolled for another year of full time studies.

The student must have maintained an overall B average in the previous year. Unofficial transcript from the applicants previous year must be submitted with the application. The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide an official transcript verifying an overall B average.

Two letters of recommendation must be included with the submission. Both letters must confirm recreation related work (volunteer or paid).

A current resume must be submitted with the application.

All information submitted will be kept confidential.

The successful candidate will receive a one-year membership to SWARG.

All applicants will be notified of the selection in writing by December 11, 2009. The bursary will be awarded by December 31, 2009. The will be bursary awarded this year will be in the amount of $500.00. Bursary recipients will be officially recognized at the SWARG Annual Meeting held April 15, 2010.
Applicants may be requested to attend an interview.
Selection of the successful candidate will be based on volunteer and work experience in the recreation field, academic standing and references.
If any of the above criteria are not included in the submission, the Selection Committee will not review the application.
All applications and supporting documents must be typed.
