| Walk/Meeting locations: Dundas Driving Park: There is ample free parking and we meet on the right hand side of the park. Since the park is a circle, it is easy to join or end your walk at any time. The park is plowed and salted in winter. One circuit of the park is .9 km. In case of inclement weather or few walkers, the Dundas OEYC is only a few blocks away at Knox Presbyterian Church and is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:30am. It is a warm, dry and welcoming place (with washrooms!) that is also free and fun for children. Ancaster, St. John's Anglican Church: The walk will start from the parking lot behind St. John's Church, located at 272 Wilson St East. The church is on the corner of Wilson and Halson St. and the parking lot is free and accessible from Halson St. (park near the Parish Hall). There is a path leading from behind the church to just past McNiven. It takes about 1/2 hour to walk one full loop of the route. Since we will be walking the route 2-3 times in a session, late arrivals can meet up with those turning around in the parking lot to start the route again. There are also playgrounds along the route with benches and picnic tables as well as a Tim Horton's for snacks and washrooms. Rail Trail (Dundas): The walk will start from the parking lot behind The Barn grocery store at University Plaza at Osler Dr and Tweedsmuir Ave. Parking is free and accessible from Osler Drive. The Rail Trail runs from Hamilton to Brantford and we will be joining it behind the Plaza and walking to Sanctuary Park (or further) and then back. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk to Sanctuary Park where we will rest and play. Late arrivals can always meet at Sanctuary Park off Sanctuary Dr, where there is also ample and free parking. There are also playgrounds along the route and benches as well as the Plaza merchants (bagels, pizza) for snacks and washrooms. Bayfront Park: Meet at the three flags near the parking lot. Jog, blade or stroll next to the water and beat the heat! There are washrooms available and free parking. There is also a great tugboat park and splash pad at Pier 4 Park that we plan to enjoy after the walk. Waterdown: Meet at Alexander Place at 329 Parkside Drive at the sign for the Heritage Trail. Please park on Victoria St and not at the nursing home itself - parking at the nursing home is reserved for residents! Round trip (walking) is about 45 minutes, but the path is also suitable for rollerblading or biking. Since the path is not cleared in winter, this is a summer/fall walk only. Westdale: Meet at The Second Cup in Westdale (near McMaster University) and walk to Churchill Park and even to Princess Point and back. Dundas Valley Conservation Area: There is a voluntary donation of $2/person, $5/family. We will meet at the Dundas Valley Trail Centre off Sulphur Springs Rd. It is located along the Rail Trail and has access to several trails suitable for backpack carriers and strollers. Water fountains, washrooms and a snack bar are available inside the Centre; ample parking is available. All family members are welcome! Royal Botanical Gardens: Meet at the Arboretum (off Old Guelph Road). Bring some birdseed to feed the birds. Ample free parking. Wentworth Lodge: Wentworth Lodge is located at 41 South St W in Dundas. Please park on the street. Home Newsletters |
