Children's Liturgy
Children come to Sunday Masses and are
dismissed before the Scripture readings
and the homily so that they may move to
another area of the hall and meeting
rooms to listen to the Word of God.
The children listen to the same readings
- although perhaps not all three
readings - as the adult community. No
registration necessary.
To be part of the Liturgy Of The Word
simply come to any of our Sunday Masses
(check back to our Home Page for times
of Masses). We have Liturgy of the Word
for children at all our Sunday Masses
except the 7:30 pm on Sunday evening.
For further information, or to volunteer
as a leader or an assistant, please
contact Christine Robertson through the
church office at 389-8222.
High School Youth Ministry Program
Life Teen is nothing like any other teen program you
may have experienced before. Life Teen is a Roman
Catholic teen ministry program designed to lead
teens closer to Christ through a dynamic weekly Mass
and Life Night.
Life Nights are fun-filled, high energy evenings
that reach teens on four levels: spiritual,
emotional, social and educational. Life Nights are
held Sunday evenings from 5:15 – 7:15 pm and all
high school teens are welcome to attend. We serve a
free dinner at 5:15pm prepared by volunteers from
our community on our Cooks & Clean Up Team. The Life
Nights are facilitated by our adult Core Team.
Mass is planned with teenagers in mind – music that
touches you, with sounds you know: drums, electric
guitars, bass and keys. The homilies deal with
topics teenagers need to hear about: relationships,
drugs, suicide, peer pressure, the difficulty of
balancing friends, family, work and school; and what
the Gospel has to say about all these things. All
are welcome to attend Life Teen masses at St. Paul
the Apostle Parish at 7:30 pm.

Altar
Servers
Phone number: 613-548-8079 (Leslie)
The altar server ministry is a
dynamic and action-oriented way for
youth who have received First
Communion to participate in the Mass
and deepen their faith. Youth are
able to join at any time and we
especially welcome children who have
recently received First
Communion. Yes, it takes commitment
from the whole family to arrive 15
minutes early. We welcome busy
families to consider taking a few
extra minutes to support this effort
as “their family ministry” at St.
Paul the Apostle Church. Currently,
this ministry is done on a
non-scheduled basis
Altar servers meet during the school
year on the third Wednesday of every
month, from 7 – 8 pm in the church.
This time is spent getting to know
one another, engaging in peer-based
training, and having fun. You must
attend an altar server meeting prior
to beginning this ministry You are
welcome to come to a meeting just to
“check it out”. For more
information, please contact Leslie
at (613) 548-8079.

Communion Assistance
Coordinator -
Joyce Davies
Meetings - several times a year as
announced in the bulletin in the church
Time commitment - Communion Assistants
choose which of five masses they prefer
and are scheduled according to the
number of volunteers for each mass
Our ministry is to distribute the Body
and the Blood of Christ during Sunday
and also week-day liturgies in our
church. (There is a separate ministry of
carrying Communion to the sick and to
the nursing homes.) When we meet it is
for the purpose of deepening our
relationship with Jesus and with our
fellow-parishioners. Our focus is on
seeing Christ in all people and in
sharing that vision and the immense love
of Jesus with all who come to the table.
As an adjunct to this ministry,
Communion Assistants are also involved
in welcoming people when they enter the
church for Sunday liturgy
Meetings are definitely open to new
members and to any parishioners who may
be interested in this ministry.
Blood of Christ
COMMUNION ASSISTANTS - Body of Christ
It is especially important that during
Communion Assistants offer welcome and
Hospitality. Please avoid a rigid and
overly "official" attitude in the
distribution of communion and in
particular in blessing the children.
This does not mean one is to be casual
or flippant. It does however invite each
communion assistant to offer the warmth
of welcome and hospitality that Jesus
would offer. We invite you to read the
section below in preparation for your
important ministry.
REMINDERS TO ENHANCE THE LITURGY
Please move to the altar DURING THE SIGN
OF PEACE so as to be in position to pour
of to stand beside the priest AT THE
BEGINNING of the Lamb of God in order to
take part in the "Fraction Rite". The
singing of the "Lamb of God and the
"pouring and breaking" are to be
simultaneous. Frequently the Lamb of God
and the "Fraction Rite" are well under
way before the communion assistant
arrives.
Please do not give directions or
otherwise "chat" with other ministers
while in the sanctuary.
A sign in sheet will be in the sacristy.
There will be a spot for two Eucharistic
Ministers to go to the altar during the
fraction rite to share in the breaking
of the bread and spot for the other to
go to the tabernacle and bring the
ciborium to the altar. When going to the
tabernacle, genuflect or bow, open the
door, remove the ciborium, close the
door, take to altar. After Communion
this person will return the ciborium to
the tabernacle. Once placed in the
tabernacle, close the door and genuflect
or bow.
Please DO RECOGNIZE AND BLESS THE
CHILDREN. Make this a warm, deliberate
and personal action. Words which may be
used are, "MAY GOD (CONTINUE TO) BLESS
YOU". "MAY GOD KEEP YOU SAFE AND
HEALTHY". "MAY YOU BE GIVEN PEACE AND
THE FULLNESS OF LIFE".
Always BLESS THE CHILD FIRST AND THEN
DISTRIBUTE COMMUNION TO THE PARENT. OF
COURSE YOU DO NOT BLESS WITH A HOST IN
YOUR HAND. I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU use
the back part of your hand to touch the
child so as not to (appear to) handle
all kinds of heads and then touch the
host. If you do not feel comfortable
blessing the children please tell the
priest BEFORE MASS so that alternate
arrangements may be made.
If you run out of hosts, place the empty
ciborium on the altar and return to your
seat.
Children receiving First Eucharist may
receive it from ANY Eucharistic Minister
and under both species if they choose,
however, they usually do go to the
Priest.
NOTES FOR THOSE DISTRIBUTING COMMUNION
WITH THE CHALICE
PLEASE COME TO THE ALTAR AS SOON AS WE
BEGIN TO SING THE LAMB OF GOD...THREE ON
THE ORGAN SIDE AND ONE ON THE TABERNACLE
SIDE
HELP BRING THE FOUR CHALICES (GLASS)
WITH PURIFICATORS TO THE ALTAR FROM THE
SIDE TABLE ONE PERSON POUR INTO FOUR
EQUAL PARTS. FORM A LINE AT THE EDGE OF
THE ALTAR FACING ACROSS THE ALTAR.
RECEIVE THE HOST IN YOUR HAND, HOLD IT
IN ORDER TO RECEIVE COMMUNION WITH THE
PRIEST. RECEIVE A CHALICE (RESPOND
"AMEN" ) AND RECEIVE COMMUNION FROM THE
CHALICE.
WHEN THE PRIEST GOES TO DISTRIBUTE
COMMUNION MOVE TO THE FLOOR LEVEL TWO ON
EACH SIDE (PLEASE MOVE OUT TOWARD THE
WALLS TO AVOID CONGESTION).
WHEN A COMMUNICANT APPROACHES SAY "THE
BLOOD OF CHRIST", PASS THE CHALICE TO
THE COMMUNICANT. WHEN THEY HAVE RECEIVED
COMMUNION RECEIVE IT BACK AND WIPE IT
INSIDE AND OUT WITH THE PURIFICATOR AND
ROTATE FOR THE NEXT COMMUNICANT. (GLASS
SHOWS STAINS SUCH AS LIPSTICK)
WHEN FINISHED (IF CHALICE IS EMPTY LEAVE
EARLY), RETURN THE CHALICE TO THE SIDE
TABLE AND RETURN TO YOUR SEAT.
IF POSSIBLE STAY AFTER MASS AND GO TO
THE SIDE TABLE TO HELP CONSUME WHAT
REMAINS AND PURIFY THE CHALICES.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE

Youth Group (Juniors)
OBJECTIVE.
To have each attendee fully
participate in all activities and
have each realize St. Paul The
Apostle Church is not only a place
their parents take them on Sundays,
Christmas and Easter, but can be a
destination gathering place where
all attendees can meet friends, make
new friends and have good clean,

the process learn that trusting and
helping others can be a self
satisfying learning experience.

Ushers
Coordinator -
Phil Healey
Meetings - as required
Open to New Members
Ushers are scheduled for each mass and
special occasions.
Tasks for Greeters and Ushers -checklist
Building:
1. Be there. Remember that God's people
need you and are depending on you. If
you cannot function for an appointed
service, it is your responsibility to
provide a substitute.
2. Arrive at church, at least 15 to 20
minutes prior to everyone else. Give a
moment to silent prayerful preparation
for your ministry. Arrange all those
things that need to be readied i.e.
money baskets, set up table for gifts of
bread and wine.
3. Be at your best. Look pleasant. Check
your attire.
4. If it is your responsibility , the
welcoming period is the best time to
enlist those who will carry the gifts to
the altar. Check with priest-celebrant
for any special instructions.
People:
5. Take your place at the entrance. .
6. Make your first word a word of
welcome. Keep on the lookout for new
members of the parish, for visitors,
strangers, or the aged. These last may
need special attention. .
7. When you recognize newcomers, invite
them to meet some of those present.
Introduce them. Help them feel at home.
8. When you escort or "seat" people up
the aisle, walk slowly. Seat them from
front to back. Do not merely point to a
seat, but lead people there personally.
The Liturgy:
9. When it is time for the celebration
to begin, seat latecomers unobtrusively
or let them seat themselves. You may
wish to stop them from disturbing the
assembly by standing firmly at the foot
of the aisle. If seating is not
available, request quietly that they
wait for the earliest opportunity to be
seated.
10. Handle unsupervised children gently,
tactfully. They cannot be allowed to
wander in and out disturbing the
assembly. If they must leave, chairs
might be provided in the foyer for them
until they can return opportunely.
11. Participate by word and posture in
the action of the Mass. Ushers should
have a place to sit which enables them
to participate in the postures of the
assembly - sitting, standing, kneeling -
throughout the liturgy. They need to be
clearly seen to be members of the
assembly.
12. Be aware of any emergencies or
special needs, for example, a cup of
water to a coughing individual. Only a
genuine emergency should draw an usher
from his/her place during the
Eucharistic Prayer .
13. Direct the smooth formation of
processions. Make sure there are
sufficient baskets and ushers.
14. After the general intercessions,
take up the money collection or have
others do so. The spirit of hospitality
demands that people should not feel they
are being rushed. Never embarrass
anyone.
15. While the collection is being
gathered, one usher should see that the
gift-bearers are ready for the
procession. When the collection has been
gathered, one usher leads the procession
to the altar. The basket(s) is presented
to the priest and the usher steps aside
for the gift-bearers, returning to
his/her place immediately.
16. Alert the Ministers of the Bread and
Cup if someone unable to approach the
front wants to receive Communion.
Dismissal:
17. Remain in your places during the
prayer after communion and any
announcement. Those who habitually leave
at this time must be left to their own
devices. .
18. With the beginning of the final hymn
or instrumental postlude, go to the
doors. In good weather see that they are
propped open to provide easy exit for
the assembly. .
19 Stand ready to take any books or
hymnals from the hands of the ministers
as they leave.
20. Be available to pass out parish
bulletins or newspapers and to provide
assistance for anyone disabled. Wish all
a pleasant good-bye as they leave.
21. If a gathering or extension of the
Eucharist occurs after Mass, encourage
people to attend and accompany them to
the hall.
22. Straighten up the church building:
adjust windows, check for articles left
behind, check for litter in the seats or
on the floor, check bathrooms,
vestibules, etc. If it is your
responsibility, put the collection money
in a safe place. Turn off lights. In
general, see that all is in good order
for the next service.
