Lotus

When I decided to use this blue stone slice, I did not know what it would turn out to be. I had a general idea drawn on paper and I started on the left side with small colored glass pieces and my pattern started to take shape. It kept changing as I added glass pieces. Once I was happy with it, I soldered all these with the blue stone slice and with the right side in order to be able to cut the bottom part adjusting it to the outline created. I then soldered this piece with the middle area. The work was taking shape as I went along. I could then make an outline for the top part. In order to add a yellow blob within the top section, I had to cut the yellow piece to size and then cut the rays around the blob and soldered all that. After that completed, I added the surrounding lilac glass pieces to make a finishing touch to the whole work. I am quite happy with it and it is colourful and lively. I did not use patina as I wanted more light for this piece. It took me about 30 hours to assemble this unique 14.5 x 11.5 inches work of.... art!

Quand j'ai décidé d'employer une tranche d'agate que j'avais depuis longtemps je ne savais pas comment mon projet finirait. J'ai dessiné une esquisse sur papier pour avoir une idée d'ensemble. J'ai donc commencé à couper et à assembler la section à gauche de l'agate puis à droite. J'ai soudé cette section pour ensuite découper la section bleue du bas que j'ai assemblée aussi. La section au dessus de l'agate fut ensuite définie et soudée au tout. J'ai enfin pu dessiner le contour pour la section jaune en haut qui est toute d'une pièce que j'ai coupée pour pouvoir y insérer la grosse goutte jaune qui fait comme un soleil avec ses rayons. Maintenant il me restait à couper et souder les pièces qui entourent le tout. Je n'ai pas mis de patine pour noircir la soudure parce que je voulais avoir plus de lumière dans ce projet. J'y ai mis environ 30 heures pour couper et assembler cette pièce unique de ma composition qui mesure 36.5 x 29 cm.
