Soroptimist Programs Room at the Norfolk Pregnancy Centre Grand Opening

S.I.A. Club Grants for Women and Girls July 2010SI Haldimand-Norfolk has again been successful in obtaining a $10,000 grant through the SIA Club Grants for Women and Girls. The money will be used to establish and develop the Soroptimist Programs Room at the Norfolk Pregnancy Centre which is a new service agency in Norfolk County for young women who are pregnant. We will assist with the initial expenses for furnishings, equipment and educational materials for the Soroptimist Programs Room where programs are offered to the young women seeking help. The Center's mission is to empower young women to make healthy and informed decisions regarding their pregnancies and to be leaders/advocates in promoting positive parenting, relationships and sexual values. |
Women of Excellence Award Ceremony 2010Soroptimist International of Haldimand-Norfolk proudly reports on the 3rd Annual "Women of Excellence" Awards ceremony for Saturday April 17th, 2010. Our 13 nominees were treated to an elegant, flower filled, champagne brunch catered by the Womens Auxiliary and served by member of SI Haldimand-Norfolk. Honourable dignitaries included; Mayor Marie Trainer of Haldimand County, and Councillor Charlie Luke of Norfolk County The "Women of Excellence" trophy presentations were hosted by the local radio announcer for CD 98.9 FM, Mrs. Renee` Berube S.I.A. sponsored award winners included: RUBY AWARD recipient, Jane Scheel. Jane received a pendant with Ruby gemstone, donated by Jewellery Halmo and a $ 100 donation for a charity of her choice. "Women's Opportunity Award" recipient, Bettyann Lewis received a check of $ 1,000 and the "Violet Richardson Award" recipient, Abbey McGuire received a check of $ 250. Both ladies also received a certificate and flowers that were donated by Eisings Greenhouses and Garden Centre. Seven Local Business, who sponsored Awards where able to present the Trophies to the winners in different categories. Tears of joy, mountains of applause, anecdotal produced laughter and humbling gestures of gratitude filled the day. Birthing Kits for The Joy and Hope of Haiti

On Sunday March 7, 2010, Soroptimist International of Haldimand-Norfolk celebrated International Women's Day by assembling 500 Birthing Kits for " The Joy and Hope of Haiti". These birthing kits contain: 1 razor, 1 pair of vinyl gloves, 2 pieces sturdy precut 8" long string, 2-2x2 gauze pads, 1 prepared belly band, 1 safety pin. These basic items in this kit helps to provide a clean, safe birth for both the mother and baby.
