President, Murray Long & Associates Inc. |
Murray Long is one of canada’s foremost consultants and trainers
in the area of privacy issues, policy and legislation.
In 1993, he joined the Canadian Standards Association’s Technical
Committee on Privacy as a representative of the Stentor companies
and contributed to the development of the CSA Model Code for the
Protection of Personal Information. This Code became the basis
of Canada’s new new private sector privacy law, the Personal
Information and Electronic Documents Act.
Mr. Long was also the principal author of Making the CSA Privacy
Code Work for You, a comprehensive workbook on applying the CSA
Code, published by the Canadian Standards Association in 1996.
In 1998 he established PrivacyScanTM, an information service on
the Personal Information and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPED Act").
Today, PrivacyScan has become one of the most widely read and
reliable sources of privacy information for private-sector
organizations in Canada.
Over the past several years, Mr. Long has written numerous
articles, spoken extensively and led many workshops on privacy
issues. He also co-authored The Canadian privacy Law Handbook,
a guide to understanding and applying the PIPED Act. Published
in June 2000, less than two months after the passage of the Act,
the book is the first annotated reference text on the Act.
As a privacy consultant, Mr. Long provides advice to many
businesses and industry associations. His clients include
companies in the communications, financial, transportation
and retail sectors.
