The Alsop Former Student's Association

The full title of what used to be the Old Boys Association. There is a £10 fee for Life Membership, which applies to all former pupils, of all the various incarnations of Alsop (High School, Comprehensive, Walton Community Comprehensive, etc), no matter what far flung corner of the world you've ended up in.

The association sponsors Girl's Netball and Hockey, and Drama, Football, Cricket and Golf and holds a reunion dinner each Autumn

Membership details can be obtained from Brian Smith, the Assistant Secretary who sent me the following report on the 2002 event

Annual Reunion Dinner 2002
The Annual Reunion dinner was attended by over 60 former students and the former Headmaster, Mr.A.R.Roberts together with the current Headteacher Mr.P.Jamieson (a former Quarrybank pupil) but for the first time in anybody's memory Mr.T.King was unable to attend due to illness.
The menu does not show any indication that there were quality wines freely available so by the time the meal was completed everybody was in a convivial mood ready for the Toasts and Speakers.
Ian Walker presented a short report from the viewpoint of the School Govenors on the changes that are taking place at the Queen's Drive Site and Phil Jamieson gave a full report on the both the acedemic achievements of the pupils and the sporting successes of the various school teams. He outlined the amalgamation of Alsop with the Queen Mary High School that has taken place and the need for a large increase in the classroom needs now that here are 1800 pupils at the school. Also the nearby Bowling Greens will be replaced by new facilties in Walton Park to make way for new vocational facilities that are to be built on the site, and these will be complemented by the reconstruction of the Swimming Baths as a Sports centre for the use of the School during normal hours. He advised that the School is once again on many parents wish-list for their children and he is looking forward to all pupils receiving the education that fulfills their aspirations.
In all these areas he will be assisted by a school staff of nearly 300 people.....just think of the car parking needs!
Once again the Dinner gave an opportunity for meeting friends, looking at both the many old photographs displayed and at the old School magazines for ones literary or sporting contributions to school life over theyears. The other good news was that three past pupils signed up on the night as life members so taking our numbers up to nearly two hundred Life members...you too can join from any part of the globe for a one-off payment of only £10.00....mail me for details.
