...a band history almost a decade in the making...
The
band PAZUZU was founded just under a decade ago, at the advent of the Black
Metal rise in Europe, by members of Summoning, at that time still a demo
band. The general idea was to create a new and innovative style of music
that would introduce a new wind to the already corroding movement. By using
solely synthesizers, samplers and effects, PAZUZU strived to create music
that was both dark and at the same time bombastic and atmospheric. We were
constantly striving to capture the essence of evil and melancholy and create
something that hadn't been heard before...
In early 1993 we recorded "The
Urilia Text", our first demo, which featured 2 unreleased Summoning bonus
tracks on the B-Side. At that time, the line up included a host of people,
although all music was composed and performed by Silenius and Protector
and all lyrics were written by Pazuzu.
Head Not Found of Norway soon became
interested in our music and it wasn't too long before Metalion offered
us a record deal that would lead to the 1994 release "...And all was silent",
which was recorded in a small Viennese studio over the course of 2 days.
This being our first release we weren't too concerned with quality of sound
or the likes and shortly after this, the album hit the stores.
Because the underground was still
fairly unsaturated and so called keyboard bands were not yet a dime a dozen.
"...And all was silent" enjoyed fairly big success and the reviews in the
press were very encouraging and positive...
Due to conflicts within Summoning,
PAZUZU soon ridded itself of Trifixion and went on to record a sampler
track for the "ABMS Norici Obscura Pars" compilation CD in 1996 entitled
"The First Dominion : Renewal of Ages", that was to be released on Dark
Matter Records, along with a host of other Austrian Black Metal Bands.
This had been the first official release since the 1994 debut.
Although not many copies were sold
of the compilation due to lack of distribution, the responses were still
overwhelming and PAZUZU went on to sign a record deal with DMR in early
1996. Later that year we hit the studio a third time to record the second
full length CD entitled "Awaken the Dragon", featuring a reduced line up
of only Pazuzu and minimal contribution by Silenius and Protector....The
songs on this album were very atmospheric and epic, conveying visions of
the apocalypse and armageddon. The album was produced by Martin Schirenc
in the Sing Sang Studios assuring a quality sound from beginning to end.
DMR's demise prevented album sales from reaching full potential but nonetheless,
reviews for "Awaken the Dragon" were outstanding throughout the metal media
world and the record was on many playlists of mags and radio stations worldwide.
In 1998 Pazuzu relocated to Canada.
Two years went by, before PAZUZU hit the studio again. This time the band
had shrunk to a solo project. The music became darker, colder and definitly
more organic than previous releases. At the dawn of 2000 "III:The End of
Ages" hit the stores. The band had signed a 3 record deal with Milan based
Avantgarde
Music and was ready to start from scratch...
Now, almost 2 years later...PAZUZU
is still alive, creating dark music that stands as a monument to obscurity
and filth. A new release is planned for the end of 2001...Stay tuned...there's
more to come!
