HISTORY
Since Ontario 7 is a organization made up of members in the Fire Service, it was natural
for Ontario 7 to look at raising funds for medical equipment to help those with Burn Injuries.
The Southeastern Ontario Burn Unit which was located in Kingston General Hospital was
chosen for this fundraising.
In Spring 2005 the Burn Unit itself ceased to exist. This was due to an evaluation that identified that
burn victim patients were being isolated and that their psycho/socio needs were not being met in
the unit. The other very important piece of this is that doctors and nurses were located and working
in other areas of the hospital such as the Intensive Care Unit. It was identified that it would be
better to have the patients where the care teams are and where additional equipment is readily
accessible. As for equipment purchased over the years it is located throughout the hospital and is
available for a burn injury. There is a warehousing system where equipment is stored and called
upon when required. The Burn Bed, which was a larger purchase that Red Knights Ontario 7
funds supported, is in use on occasion by other patients, but is identified as the Burn Bed and would
be used when a burn injury patient is admitted.
Over the years Ontario 7 has made various levels of donations to the
Kingston General Hospital Foundation.
To date the total of those donations is over $20,000. Below are images of two Certificates of Appreciation presented
