Thank you for your interest in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Peterborough Particular Council. With the help of people like you the Society is able to provide food, clothing, shelter and valuable human services to the poor and underserved throughout the entire Peterborough area.
In today's trying financial times, more and more people are having trouble making ends meet, putting food on the table or receiving even basic health care. At the same time, charitable funds are dwindling to smaller and smaller levels. Donate in any way you can, there are many options available. Click on one of the following bulleted text links below for more details.
In addition to helping us provide relief to those in need, you can feel comforted in knowing that the Society of St. Vincent de Paul passed through 92 cents of every dollar taken in directly to the poor in our community.
With sincere gratitude we Thank You for your generosity, compassion and commitment to Helping Us Help Others.
1. Donate by Money or Pledge Gifts of cash are available for immediate use by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and are usually fully deductible for donors who itemize deductions. Contributions that are not restricted for a specific purpose are always welcomed and will be applied wherever the need is greatest. When you do not restrict the use of your gift, the Society gains flexibility not otherwise available, allowing it to meet changing or urgent needs. However, cash gifts also may be designated to one or more specific programs or funds according to the wishes of the donor. In addition, major gifts may be made as pledges where the gift commitments are to be fulfilled during a specific period of time according to a prearranged payment schedule.
2. Donate Online via Paypal; Click on the button below to go to the Paypal giving site. Follow the provided directions from there to make your donation using a major credit card or your PayPal account:
3.Matching Gifts Many corporations have demonstrated their support for their employees' charitable intent by matching, or multiplying, their employees' gifts, up to a set amount. If you are considering making a gift to the Society, you may want to ask if your employer participates in such a program. It is usually very easy to submit the paperwork and you may be able to double the amount of your gift. Just include your company's contribution form with your donation and the Society will do the rest.
4. PLANNED GIVING Planned giving offers donors the opportunity to establish gifts that will help the Society for generations to come. Planned gifts can be arranged through wills, trusts, insurance, and gifts of property. With proper planning, you can make wonderful gifts in support of the Society while maintaining or even improving your financial status. It is possible to make gifts while increasing income for you and your loved ones, providing for inheritances, and reducing or eliminating income, gift and estate taxes. Just two examples of Planned Giving are;
1. Wills and Trusts The vast majority of Canadians die without a will, leaving their estates to be distributed according to a legislative formula determined by the provincial and/or federal governments. A will or living trust, however, lets you provide for your family after your death, with the major difference between a will and a living trust being that the trust assets avoid probate. Wills and trusts are fully revocable so that you can terminate them at any time, and donations made to charities, such as the Society, are deducted from the value of the total estate for purposes of determining estate taxes. This allows you to provide support for the Society, while at the same time enabling you to reduce the rate at which your loved ones are taxed, thus preserving the value of the estate they will inherit.
2.Life Insurance Policies Many Canadians today have paid-up life insurance policies that are no longer needed. A gift of this policy to the Society would assure the future growth of the Society, provide you with an income tax deduction, and remove this asset from your estate. In addition, you might purchase a new life insurance policy, pay the modest annual premiums for several years, and make a significant gift to the Society by naming it as the beneficiary or contingent beneficiary.
5. Donate By Goods or Services The Society's Store has been in continuous operation since 19XX and serves thousands of customers a year. The Thrift Store not only contributes to the local economy by furnishing a ready source of low cost goods and a few jobs to residents from the surrounding low-income communities, but helps fund the Society's charitable programs and services.
The Store was created to help fund the charitable programs of the Society including the Society's Conferences serving needy families in their local communities. The Society's volunteer conferences rely heavily on the Store to assist with the provision of free clothing, furniture and household goods to the needy families supported by the conferences.
Your In-Kind Donation of clothing, furniture, books, small appliances can be used to assist a working poor family in need or help support the vital programs and services run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
