Our Conference is located at; 859 Barnardo St., Peterborough

On Monday,Wednesday and Friday afternoons, our clients visit us at our meeting room in the lower level of the St. Anne's Church parish centre. During a short interview we ascertain their immediate concerns and requirements before giving them an appropriate dollar-value in gift cards at a local super market, as well as a couple of days worth of non-perishable food items from our small pantry.

Presently our 25 active members meet on a monthly basis. After a spiritual reflection, the business meeting is conducted complete with minutes, a treasurer's report and various committee reports. Another 18 members of our community contribute their time and effort to pick-up and deliver to our shelves a monthly supply of groceries from Kawartha Food Share's warehouse.

In addition to meeting with our friends in need, our members are also involved in a number of other projects and events. To name just a few;

Christmas Tree of Love, a parish-wide endeavour wherein we place Christmas cards (each one representing a child from one of our client families) on a tree in the church on the first Sunday of Advent. Parishioners bring wrapped gifts to us in the weeks before Christmas and we assemble, label and deliver them on the Saturday before Christmas. Usually over 300 children receive presents of clothing or toys from our parish through this undertaking, surely something of which we all can be proud.
Coordinates the Vencentians and high school students who help to pack the Peterborough Community Christmas hampers
We are represented at the Kawartha Food Share meetings each month and frequently assist in their food drives. The Kawartha Food Share provides most of the groceries in our cupboard.
We submit the names of several children among our clients who are willing to participate in the "Kids of Steel" Marathon at Beavermead Park in July in return for a free bicycle;
Candidates for Camp Northern Lights (our local camp for under-privileged kids) are suggested and supported.

The November 2009 Conference Update

St. Anne's Vincentians are busily preparing for our annual Tree of Love campaign whereby cards containing the age, size and sex of a deserving child in our vicinity are hung on a Christmas Tree in the church on the First Sunday of Advent. Parishioners are then invited to take one home and together with their family members find and wrap a gifft to be returned to the church before the middle of December. At this point Vincentians then gather to match the gifts to the name and and address of the deserving child. Along with the Knights of Columbus, we will deliver these gifts to the homes on the Saturday before Christmas. . It truly is a blessing to be able to serve the poor in this way.

Also, on Wednesday, Dec. 16th, Vincentians from all 5 Conferences in Peterborough will assemble at the Salvation Army building on Aylmer St. to pack Christmas hampers for up to 1700 needy families in town. Students from one of the 2 Catholic High Schools in the city will assist us in this very interesting and rewarding endeavour. Listen for the sound of Christmas carols being sung that afternoon!!

Believe it or not, we will soon be preparing a list of young candidates (9-14) in elementary school who may wish to attend Camp Northern Lights next summer. As you can see, there is no end to the activity in the St. Anne's Conference.
