
One-on-One Digital Imaging Workshops
A beginners look at the techniques used in the acquisition and manipulation of images in the digital medium for traditional as well as "digital" photographers. Whether you're using B&W or colour film, or the latest digital camera technology, these workshops will give you the basics to work with your images on the computer. Topics covered include: System calibration resolution and image size, density and colour correction, using flatbed & film scanners, digital cameras, photo retouching, photo montage and digital filters. Emphasis will be put on understanding the processes that are unique to digital imaging using PhotoShop &/or PhotoShop Elements.
Week 1
An introduction to Digital Imaging & System Calibration
What makes digital images different from standard photo
manipulation.-Introduction to digital imaging and showing of examples.
-Introduction to photo manipulation software (Photoshop/Elements) and
overview of tools.
-System calibration.
Week 2
Resolution/Image size
How image size & resolution are related to image quality and file
formats.-The relationship between pixels and image size.
-Using the cropping tool
-Image quality.
-The use of JPEG, TIF and PSD file formats
Week 3
Using the Selection tools
How selection tools are use to work on parts of an image.-The use of the rectangular and circular marquee tool
-Magic wand and Lasso tools
Week 4
Density and Colour correction
How to correct density and colour on any image.-Correction of density using levels, brightness & contrast.
-Colour corrections using hue & saturation and variations.
Week 5
Photo Retouching
How to fix & restore those images that have problems.-Getting rid of image flaws and unwanted elements.
-Removal of unwanted objects.
Week 6
Photo Montage
Combining two or more images.-Cutting & pasting.
-Cloning one image onto another.
-Using layers to blend image components.
Week 7
Effects filters
How to use digital filters creatively to enhance you images.-Using Blur selectively.
-Using Textures.
-Creating special "painted" effects
Week 8
Digital Cameras
How Digital cameras differ from film cameras.-CCD's- the use of electronics to capture the image.
-Resolution and "Mega Pixels".
-Compression and image storage.
-Camera sensitivity and white balance.
Week 9
Scanning
How to get images you've already shot on film and prints into your
computer.-Print scanning using a Flatbed scanner.
-Negative a slide scanning using a Film scanner.
Week 10
Using Type
How to use text effectively on your images to create
titles, headlines and captions.-An open session to help those who have questions about specific
techniques and procedures.Workshops can be taken individually or as a complete course:
