The Original Grape Shirt Company was started in January 2006 by Patty Molnar and Sarah Jensen. Patty, who is a native of the Niagara region wanted to do something related to the exploding wine industry. After a lot of brainstorming about grapes, thoughts turned to how they stain clothing. If grapes stains are so difficult to get out of clothing, why not use the beautiful purple colour to dye apparel. And the grape shirt idea was launched.
Looking for a partner, Sarah quickly came to mind for her drive, business skills, and fun personality. She immediately saw the potential. So the two moms began dyeing shirts in their kitchens to develop a method to capture the colour of grapes on quality apparel. After many trials and a few glasses of wine, they finally perfected a formula for dyeing their shirts.
