RIVER BANKS!
Beaveree 2003 was a success !!!
Many thanks to the Leaders who helped bring this together. On
Saturday morning arrivals were slow, but everyone did show up before
11:00 Opening Ceremony. Thanks to Keith Park for parking
control. Opening Ceremony was led by Matt Ticzer of
9th Oakville. The main rule
of the day was that everyone was to have FUN. After opening all
colonies went to lunch and rested for the games which were held
at
1::00pm. Dave Haslett from 3rd Trafalgar was the game official.
We had some original games this year - 4th Trafalgar held a tug of war with the
2CUL 4U Jeep. There were many water games which were appropriate
as it was hot. 1st Bronte used the theme of Camping Under
The Stars for their game of star lacrosse.
Dave Gagen and Brenda Frederick were our guests of honour. Although Dave
left just after the games had ended. He missed out on the best part;
the Campfire. Keith Park performed his usual campfire
magic which impressed the majority of the brown tails, who
had never been to a campfire before. Many songs, skits and
cheers were performed. Leave it to Hawkeye from 1st Bronte
to yell out that the squirrels were all over him, because they
think he's nuts!!! A youth pointed out how funny he was. His daughter
Rachel exclaimed "That's MY DAD" Campfire actually ran longer than
planned as everyone was having a great time. P.S. the best part of campfire
was when Tracey Irwin was the rabbit and Paul Spehar, the fairy godmother
for a rendition of Little Rabbit Foo Foo. Paul you looked so cute
prancing with your magic wand. It is moments like these, that make it
so rewarding to belong to this great organization!!!. We were lucky that
we did not have to use your services of First Aid, as we had no incidents.
We were back to our campsites afterwards for mug-up and the
Beavers were in bed shortly after. A good day of running,
playing and hiking. As many of the groups used the time to
explore Blue Springs. Scouts Own and Closing were held at
9:00 AM by 9th Oakville. 1st Trafalgar was the last to get
to opening and ended up cleaning the Kybo's. Sorry
guys, someone had to do it. Scott you get your revenge next year in
Cubs. The youth have to do it. All groups were packed up
and out of their by noon.
Again many thanks to Keith Park, Dave Haslett, Matt Ticzer,
Paul Spehar, John Wilcock and Scott MacDonald. You all
worked hard and deserve a round of applause.
