What is Meals on Wheels?

We are a non-profit organization that delivers hot noon-time meals to your home.

Kingston's service is governed by a committee of the local Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Board of Directors.

Who is it for?
Senior citizens needing nutritional help.
Mentally or physically challenged adults.
Anyone with an acute or chronic illness.
Anyone recovering from an illness.

What are the benefits?
Allows homebound individuals to remain independent.

Well-balanced meals provide proper nutrition to help you stay healthy.

Provides regular contact with friendly volunteers.

What do the meals consist of?

Meal and dessert, containing at least 3 out of the 4 food groups from Canada's Food Guide.

Frozen meals, soups, and desserts can be ordered separately as needed.

Who is responsible for Kingston's Meals on Wheels Service?

An advisory committee that includes community representation as well as a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses Board of Directors assists with the direction of the program.

Victorian Order of Nurses staff coordinators oversee the daily operation of the program.

A grant from the government of Ontario funds part of the administration costs.

How are the meals delivered?

By screened volunteers from the community.

These volunteers freely give their time and use their own cars to deliver the meals.

Meals are transported inside insulated containers to keep them hot.

Delivery routes are kept short to ensure prompt delivery.

When do the meals come?

Meals arrive between 11am and 1pm.
Available Monday to Friday.
You may choose to receive meals each day or only on certain days.
Frozen meals can be ordered for delivery once monthly.

Individualized Service Plan

The client and/or their family members are involved in the service plan.

The plan includes:

    • type of diet

    • frequency of service

    • strong dislikes

    • information about accessing the home

The plan contributes to the maintenance, promotion, or restoration of the client's independence.

The client's service plan is documented and updated as necessary.
