Eastern Tailed Blue

Size - 15 to 25 mm.
On the wing - May until October.
Range - Primarily Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec with the greatest concentation in southern Ontario.
Host plants - The larva of this butterfly feeds on members of the pea family...Cow Vetch and clovers.
Favourite habitat - Open wooded areas and meadows.
Special notes - You just have to love this little guy. The Eastern Tailed Blue can be found in prolific numbers if your timing is right. This little guy can generally be found skimming close to the ground and landing frequently. On numerous occasions I have had several land on my feet and hands.......probably attracted to the salts. They over winter as larvae. Also see mimicry.
