Red Spotted Purple

Size - 50 to 80 mm.

On the wing - June to September.

Range - Coast to coast.

Host plants - Willow and Poplar.

Favourite habitat - Woodlands and forest edges.

Special notes - This Red Spotted Purple has only been recorded at Presqu'ile once and that was in 1997. Fortunately I was the observer and I hope that it shows up again. It looks very much like the White Admiral only without the white bars and mimics the nauseous Pipevine Swallowtail.
