Size - 30 to 40 mm.
On the wing - Early May until late June and then again in August until late September.
Range - Coast to coast.
Host plants - Grasses.
Favourite habitat - Open areas, fields and meadows.
Special notes - This highly variable butterfly has up to 20 subspecies. Larvae feed on grasses and overwinter in their fourth instar. This is a vary adaptable butterfly.
