Pipevine Swallowtail

Size - 60 to 80 mm.

On the wing - June until October.

Range - Southern Ontario fringe.

Host plants - Dutchman's Pipevine.

Favourite habitat - Open areas.

Special notes - This toxic butterfly is quite rare in our area. It receives protection from predators in much the same way as Monarchs do. The highly toxic foodplant (Dutchman's Pipe) does the same for this butterfly as Milkweed does for the Monarch.
