Northern Pearly Eye

Size - 40 to 50 mm.
On the wing - Mid June to early August.
Range - Saskatchewan to Cape Breton.
Host plants - Grasses.
Favourite habitat - Wooded areas because it is a shade loving butterfly.
Special notes - This sometimes night flier likes the shade of the forest. Larvae overwinter in their first instar and emerge as adult butterflies in mid June. Adults consume sap, dung and mud.
