Size - 25 to 35 mm.
On the wing - Mid June through July.
Range - Coast to coast.
Host plants - Asters.
Favourite habitat - A wide variety of habitats but never stray far from Asters. Damp meadows are the preferred habitat though.
Special notes - This butterfly is very hard to distinguish from the slightly smaller Pearl Crescent unless they are side by side. Northerns are minutely larger than Pearls and the females, in both, are larger than the males. Both butterflies vary in their markings the Northerns tend to have a little less detailed markings.
