Size - 25 to 30 mm.
On the wing - May through June.
Range - B.C. to Cape Breton. In the US it is found in the east and the west but not in the plains states in between.
Host plants - Larvae of this butterfly live on aspen, birch, poplar and willow.
Favourite habitat - Varied open terrain.
Special notes - The larvae live in leaf nests on these host plants and adults spend much of their time on the ground.
