Common Buckeye

Size - 40 to 45 mm.

On the wing - June to September

Range - Scattered in southern Ontario.

Host plants - Plantain and Figwort family.

Favourite habitat - Drier open areas.

Special notes - The Common Buckeye isn't considered common in Canada. However I did see considerable numbers in one isolated area at Presqu'ile. In September 1999 I saw around 30 individuals on Owen Point. Yet the following year there were very few. Adults are territorial and remain close to their preferred foodplants.
