Size - 40 to 45 mm.
On the wing - June to September
Range - Scattered in southern Ontario.
Host plants - Plantain and Figwort family.
Favourite habitat - Drier open areas.
Special notes - The Common Buckeye isn't considered common in Canada. However I did see considerable numbers in one isolated area at Presqu'ile. In September 1999 I saw around 30 individuals on Owen Point. Yet the following year there were very few. Adults are territorial and remain close to their preferred foodplants.
