Size - 45 to 70 mm.

On the wing - Mid June until mid August.

Range - Southern Ontario and Quebec. Scattered in the Maritimes

Host plants - Turtlehead.

Favourite habitat - Wet areas that support it's host.

Special notes - This stunning butterfly has a limited Canadian range. They feed, communally within a silken web, throughout the summer. In late August they go dormant until the fall, then they construct hibernating nests on the ground and resume their growth the following spring where they will consume other plants than their host.
