Appalachain Brown

Size - 40 to 50 mm.

On the wing - June to early August.

Range - Ottawa southward and scattered to the eastern fringes of the Ottawa river.

Host plants - Sedges.

Favourite habitat - Woodlands.

Special notes - The "Appalachian" Brown is very similar to the Eyed Brown. Note the underside of the wings for an easy identification. Just inside the eye spots there is a narrow dark line that, on the Eyed Brown, is very much more jagged than on the Appalachian. The larvae overwinter.
