American Snout

Size - 40 to 50 mm.

On the wing - June to August.

Range - Limited mostly to southern Ontario.

Host plants - Hackberry.

Favourite habitat - Near water on Hackberry trees.

Special notes - A very distinct looking butterfly. The snout is actually longer than normal palpi. It is considered a rare migrant to Canada but numbers and range can vary considerable from year to year but not to the point of being common.
