“Learners who prepare well for the GED tests based on our recommendations are
100% successful in getting their (Ontario High School Equivalency) diplomas…”
Pat Powell, Peterborough Native Learning Program Co-ordinator
What is GED?
The General Educational Development or GED is a series of tests for adults who
haven't finished high school. Taking the GED test is a way to show that you have
similar knowledge and skills to a high school graduate. You have to pass
examinations in five subjects: Writing, Reading, Social Studies, Science and
Mathematics. In Ontario, those who take the GED test and do well enough get their
Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate. The Certificate is widely
accepted by local employers and the College. Employment Planning &
Counselling - Peterborough administers the GED Pre-Test and the GED test
in the Peterborough area.
Why come to Peterborough Native Learning Program for
Pre-GED?
Since most people who want to get their GED have
been out of school for a while, it’s a good idea to get
the kind of professional help with preparing to write
the GED that PNLP can provide. Our pre-GED
Instructor has 25 years experience teaching adults.
We limit our class size to 5 people at any one time so you get the
individual attention you need. Our students have a 100%
success rate in passing the GED if they follow our GED training plan.
How long does it take to be prepared to write the GED?
That depends on you, how much you already know and how much you have to learn. On average if a student who scores Level 3 LBS* on entry to PNLP spends 25 hours a week preparing they are ready for the pre-test within 6 to 8 months.
While this sounds like a long time you need to remember that you’re covering the core school subjects that take high school students 4 years to get.
*”Level 3 Literacy Basic Skills” is roughly where people are at when they enter high school.
The Pre-GED preparation program at Peterborough Native Learning Program requires a lot of independent work at home as well as the time with tutor support at the program. The speed that you complete the GED preparation and are ready to write the formal pre-GED exam depends totally on the amount of time and effort you can put into your studies.
