Al'Akbar A minor hero-deity in most Baklunish countries, totally unknown elsewhere, nevertheless a deity of prime importance in Ket, Tusmit and Zeif. Al'Akbar, as a man, warned the Bakluni to turn back to worship of their proper gods. After the terror of the Invoked Devastation, he brought his people to a new land and set them on a new path. At the end of his life, he ascended to the pantheon he had worshipped all his life. His symbols are the (now stolen) Cup and Talisman. His worshippers are divided into two wings--the vast majority belong to the Exalted Faith, a small number follow the True Faith. There is very little substantive difference between the two camps except to members of the two camps. Ancient Baklunish A language spoken by the Bakluni before the Invoked Devastation. A person who speaks modern Baklunish will understand most of Ancient Baklunish. Arpad The first beygraf. He led the resistance movement against the Keoish invasion three hundred years ago, and forged a new nation from that war. Bakluni Proper name for the Baklunish people. Baklunish a) an adjective ascribing something to the Bakluni: the Baklunish pantheon. b) the language native to Bakluni, developed from Ancient Baklunish Baklunish West The countries of the Flanaess lying to the West of the Yatil Mountains/Barrier Peaks, populated mainly by Bakluni. Depending on their holdings, location, court contacts and wealth, beys can rival grafs in power or barely have enough influence to buy a bag of flour from the grist mill in their holding. Beygraf Ket's head of the state. Nominally an absolute monarch, but political intrigue has brought down many a beygraf before his time. Bissel The country immediately to the south of Ket. Ket conquered all of Bissel during the Greyhawk Wars, and the Ketite army prepares for the day that Bissel will try to exact revenge for that humiliation. Bramblewood Gap The Ketite name for the gap between the Barrier Peaks and Yatil Mountains that allows caravan and river traffic between Ket and Bissel. Most other regions of the Flanaess call it the Fals River Gap. Owned by Ket 400 years ago, then conquered by Keoland and held by Bissel until the Greyhawk Wars. Still disputed territory, although Ket owns it at the moment. Bumbershoot A clever device made of wood and water-proofed silk that when folded up resembles a silk-wrapped cane, but when unfolded, provides a portable overhead shield against sun and rain. Somewhat susceptible to damage by high winds, which can turn it inside out, rendering it useless. Celene The smaller of Oerth's two moons Centaur A race native to the Bright Lands, rarely seen in Ket. Considered to be a "monster" in Ket. Because character generation of centaurs was allowed in one Core adventure (COR5-06 Blood on the Bright Sands), a centaur character very occasionally comes to Ket. Circle of Eight The eight mighty mages who meet in Greyhawk to try to bring balance to the Flanaess. Copper Palace Home and seat of power of the Beygraf, located in Lopolla. Cup and Talisman When Al'Akbar started on his mission to bring the Bakluni back to the path of the Four Feet of the Dragon, Istus gave to him a cup and talisman as symbols of the support he received from the Baklunish Pantheon. After his death and ascension to the Pantheon, the Cup and Talisman were occasionally displayed as part of religious festivals. On one of these occasions, the two artifacts were stolen, reportedly by elves. They have never been found. D&D Dungeons & Dragons. Irafa Road A road driven straight through the middle of the Bramblewood Forest by Keoish invaders about 300 years ago. The invaders quickly built 7 forts along the road. When Keoland was driven out of Ket, the Ketite army took over the forts. The road is currently 20 feet wide in most places, and unmetalled i.e. dirt. The road is virtually impassable during spring thaw, since travellers hoping to rest at forts overnight must travel at a good clip for 9 hours, something that is impossible in muddy conditions. When the road is passable, squadrons of Kaman patrol it. Invoked Devastation The spell of mass destruction cast on the Baklunish Empire by Suolise mages. Istus Our Lady of Fate. Istus is head of the Baklunish pantheon, and a major deity in her own right. Worshippers, including non-Bakluni, are found across the Flanaess.
