An extremely complete detailed analysis of this recording by La Monte Young can be found here
After reading La Monte Young’s analysis of the recording vs. his personal superior recording, an attempt has been made to improve the available TOE version. It has been “tuned” to 80 Hz, which roughly meant slowing down the TOE recording by about 75 cents or 3/4 of a semitone and also EQ’d to lower the level of the violin and viola drone and boost up what little low end is in the recording. The result is superior, less harsh sounding and more closely resembles the “day of the antler” recording characteristics that is considered by La Monte Young as a far better sonic representation of the work performed during this period.
It appears that the source of this recording is traced back to La Monte Young’s tape archivist from the early 1970’s named Arnold Dreyblatt as sourced by his “Open Letter to La Monte Young and Tony Conrad”.
