The 1975 Corvette Stingray was my first enthusiasts car. This was the last year of the Stingray Model Corvette. It was black in colour with a silver leather interior. It had the L-48 350 engine with automatic transmission. It was a very good car overall. It did however have its share of common Corvette problems, it leaked terribly when it rained, the body had its share of spider webbing in the fiberglass and the headlights drooped due to weak support brackets. These problems were quickly corrected and the car was a reliable member of the family for the next five years.

When my first son Kyle was born, 09/11/1983, a two seat car was impractical. In the spring of 1984 I had a decision to make. The Corvette needed much work:

  • passengers power window motor was broken
  • rear leaf spring was sagging badly
  • paint was well worn and body spider webbing had deteriorated
  • cooling system was in need of overhaul

With the cost of the above mentioned repairs totaling over $5,000.00, the car was put up for sale. On a warm spring night I drove the Stingray to a friends so a prospective buyer could have a look at it. On the spot I was offered a certified cheque for the amount I was asking $7,500.00. I had to call my wife to come and pick me up as the new buyer wanted to drive her new car home. So I had money in the bank and was looking for a new ride, preferably one that would accept a car seat. I started to scan the for sale adds........
