Direct Mounting

All JCi guitars now have direct mounted pickups. I attach a
piece of wood to the bottom of the pickup, which makes contact between
the body and the pickup. This allows the vibrations from the body
to be transmitted to the pickup. The result is a sweeter, rounder
sound, increased sustain, and better articulation when compared to a
floating
pickup.
To demonstrate my point, imagine that your ear is a pickup, and place
it against a guitar body. Strum it (while unplugged of course)
with your ear pressed on the body. Then lift your ear slightly
off the body and compare the difference. The low frequencies
disappear when you lift your ear off the body.

I've done
countless comparisons by slightly raising the pickup off the body with
the adjustment screws, and lowering it back against the body.
I've seen Ibanez guitars with useless foam under their pickups, and try
to pass that off as direct mounting. The soft foam dampens any
vibrations from the wood, and doesn't transfer any sound. Only a
dense material like wood, will do the job.
I'm striving to build the best guitars possible, and direct mounted
pickups is just another feature that makes my guitars sound better than
the commercial "guitar shop eye-candy!"
