Insecticide problems - lawn weed spray

We placed a TT puppy a few years ago and received a panic call from the Owner because the dog was having convulsions. I looked up all my reference books and could not figure out for the life of me what it could be that caused the problem. I slowly ruled out the many causes for convulsions. I also knew there was no history of this type of thing in the lines we had bred.

To make a long story short, the owners had just sprayed their yards with pesticides and the puppy; only about 16 weeks old was deeply affected. He recovered and is a healthy 3 year old now. But I *warn* all new owners of this problem. Where we live in Canada, signs must be posted by law when spraying has occurred. We won't even walk our dogs on the sidewalk outside of properties that have been sprayed, and we will not walk them in public parks.

To take it even further we won't use any chemicals in the house or yard (i.e. flea sprays). We have learned to combat fleas naturally (lime in the yard, borax in the carpets, garlic yeast pills) and although we have 14 TT's and 2 Lhasas we have not had any kind of flea problem for 5 years -- knock on wood). We do have some weeds in our yard however .

We did spray about 5 years ago and nothing (insects) walked in our house for about a year - the residual smell was terrible, and I hate to think what damage those chemicals could cause.
