Dragonmoth
Close Support Vehicle

Part of the Iron Doves battle division, the Dragonmoth (DMoth) Close Support Vehicle offers the squad a fixed-air platform for armed cover of ground operations, surveillance and emergency extraction.

The DMoth is a lightweight airframe, propelled by vectoring Shaw & Whitney aerograv/magnetic turbine engines, capable of generating 2000 kg of operational plus-frame lift. The DMoth can hover at station and maneuver all compass points at variable speeds. Unburdened, the craft can reach speeds of up to 220 kph with a maximum ceiling of 8000 m. At maximum lift, the DMoth can cruise at speeds of 100 kph with a ceiling of 1000 m.

Like most of the Doves, the DMoth is equiped with a universal weapons rack, allowing several weapons packages to be exchanged quickly in the field or at base. Many of the weapons packages of other platforms can also be employed, such as the Piper's Eavesdropper AWAC package (not shown).

Native to the DMoth is the IG-44 Ion Friction Cannon or 'grit gun'. The weapon discharges tritium particulate shells that, when impacting on the surface of a target vehicle, cover all moving parts in in a microscopic, diamond hard abrasive. Any interactive movement of these parts irreparably damages them, despite the use of any known machine lubricant.

The rack can also be deployed with a deus lift arm, capable of short lift extractions of the Dove's ground units.

One DMoth is the standard compliment of an Iron Dove deployment.

Notes: This model comes from several sources. I essentially wanted a rotorless helicopter in support of ground troops. I also combined the design of the Aliens APC dropship with a dash of Jamie Neufeld's Dragon gunship.
