2010-2011-The Year in Review
by Troy Johnson
The 22nd annual Jordan Friendship Tournament was held Jan 22-23 and was enjoyed by all. The Jordan Novice ringette team won their second tournament of the season by taking the gold. The Jordan team won their first game 5-3 against a strong Ayr team on Saturday. Gracie Groulx backstopped them to the win while Kenzie Thielmann (2), Mya Ibrahim (2) and Avery Johnson led the scoring. Jordan fell behind 4-1 in their second game against Kitchener but stormed back in the second period to tie the game. With Gracie Groulx in goal and Autumn Bigger, Riley Groulx and Kiara Mohr on defence the girls shut down the Kitchener team defensively in the second half to allow the comeback. Avery Johnson scored her second goal of the game with the goalie pulled with 15 seconds remaining to tie the game while Mya Ibrahim and Erin Green also chipped in goals. Jordan faced Ayr in a rematch in the final and came away with a convincing 6-2 victory for the gold medal. Kenzie Thielmann shut the door in goal while Kennedy Smith (2), Avery Johnson (2), Mya Ibrahim and Gracie Groulx led the way with goals. Aliya Ibrahim, Hannah Collens-Cook and Tara Metzke moved the ring well and helped set up the goals. The Petite division was won by Kitchener over Oshawa in dramatic fashion with Kitchener scoring 3 goals in the final 4 minutes to win 6-5 in the final. The bunnyfest was held on the Sunday with over 50 girls from Jordan, St Catharines, Burlington and Niagara Falls participating. No official scores were kept but many goals were scored and a lot of fun was had. Thanks to all the parents and volunteers who made the tournament a great success again this year.
Jordan enjoyed another strong year at the Provincials, taking home two medals. The U19 (Belle) AA team competed hard over th e weekend, placing 7th and missing the medal rounds. They did take home the Sportsmanship award for U19AA and should be commended on their first year at the AA level. The Open A team cruised through the round robin, winning 4-1, 5-1, 4-3, 2-1, 5-2 and 7-0 to finish first overall. They overpowered Ottawa 5-1 in the semi-finals and then lost a heartbreaker, 1-0 in the finals to Waterloo. Congratulations on their silver medal, a great follow-up to their Gold medal in 2010. The U14 (tween) A team also competed in the provincials, qualifying for the McCarthy division in their first year as a provincial level team. Jordan beat Waterloo in their first game 5-2, lost a close one to Whitby 5-4, edged West Ferris 4-3 and Ottawa 3-2, lost to Chatham 5-4 and beat Richmond Hill 4-3 to finish second overall in the round robin. They then lost a close semi-final to Richmond Hill 3-2 before winning the bronze medal game 2-1 over Whitby to take the bronze medal. Congratulations on a great finish at their first provincials. Jordan should be proud to have 3 teams representing them at the provincial level, taking away a silver and bronze medal. This is the second year in a row Jordan has won two medals at provincials and hopefully the younger teams can be inspired by this success. See below for Jordan's provincial success over the past 10 yrs, 9 medals and 3 Sportsmanship awards in 10 yrs.

Jordan's Jim Henry Wins Provincial Coach of the Year
Dr. Jim Henry, head coach
of the two-time provincial champion Jordan Belle A ringette team was honoured
with the Ontario Coach of the Year award by the Ontario Ringette Association
(ORA). Jim received his award at the Volunteer Recognition Awards dinner at the
ORA’s Annual General Meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake on June 7, 2008. He was
nominated by assistant coach Tim Kostesky.
Jim has been coaching both recreational and competitive teams in various age
divisions for 10 years in Jordan. His Belle A team won the 2007 provincial
title and successfully defended their title again this year in the 2008 season.
Over the last two seasons, his team posted an outstanding two silver and eight
gold medals in 10 tournaments and both years went undefeated through the
Provincial Championships.
What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that the team had 12
players in 2007 and only 8 players in 2008 – about half the usual size of a
ringette team. Coach Jim worked his players to maintain a high level of
physical fitness that included weekly dry-land training sessions in addition to
their on-ice practices so that they could successfully skate hard with just
short rests and remain healthy and injury-free. He also involved his players in
determining significant decisions regarding game strategy.
His commitment to the game of ringette also extends beyond the Jordan Ringette
Association with his involvement as a coach of the Brock University B team.
Next season, Jim will be behind the bench as the head coach the Jordan Open A
ringette team. Congratulations are offered to Jim on his award and his
accomplishments with the Belle A team. Thanks are extended for his long-time
commitment to the Jordan Ringette Association and for the recognition of
Jordan’s excellent program that the provincial award brings. Way to go, Jim!
Jordan's Darcy Vidler
Awarded Agnes Jacks Scholarship
Congratulations to Belle A player Darcy Vidler on being awarded one of five 2008 Agnes Jacks scholarships in Canada. The scholarship from Ringette Canada honours players, coaches or officials who demonstrate a strong commitment to the sport of ringette and excellence in academics. The cash award is for post-secondary education. Darcy will be attending Queen’s University in September 2008. Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by January 31st each year.

League (Division 5) and the Regionals (Division 4) for 2007 / 2008

girls did not give up and continued to improve. The Regional tournament was a
hard fought victory with only 9 girls on the team they squeaked into the final
and then came back from 3 - 1 at half time to win 6 - 3. Way to go Jordan!

Belle B Team Has Winning Season
Congratulations to the Jordan Belle B team for playing incredible ringette. Last
years winning Junior B team moved up to Belle this year and had an even better
season. The girls were a force to be reckoned with all year as they played 36
games with a record 28 wins, 3 losses and 5 ties. This season’s league player
stats had 6 of the top 10 spots owned by our players with our team taking the
top 4 spots. The girls played outstanding as a team all season, being able to
play alongside any one of their teammates. This much needed skill along with the
desire to win every game, has made them champions again for 3 straight years.
When they were behind or tied near the end of a game, the girls just dug deeper
and played even harder. Because of this they were league champions, finishing
both the regular season and the playoffs in 1st place. The weekend
of April 11th was the yearly Regionals tournament where we played
Hagersville and Ayr in round robin play beating them both in games that were won
in the last few minutes of each game. We faced Ayr for the Gold medal game on
the Sunday. Ayr is one of only 3 teams that have beaten us this year. Since that
early loss we have played them with fierce intensity and it worked again as we
won 4-2 in yet another game that was close up to the end. Both teams we faced
this year were very good and all 3 games were fast and exciting to watch as any
team could have won any one of the games. Our Jordan team wouldn’t let up or
give up and it resulted in their success.
All the girls played fantastic the whole season with Alanna being the top
goalie in the league keeping us in every game, making incredible saves all the
time. Thanks go to the coaching staff as well as the parents and friends for
your support all season. A special thank-you to Rempel Electric, our sponsor for
leading the way with a new Jordan look this year on our centre's jerseys.

Jordan a Ringette Powerhouse
The community of Jordan is on top of the ringette world.
At the
recent provincial championships in Oshawa, both the belle A (18 and under) and
the junior A (15 and under) captured championships. Both teams went into the
10-team events as the top-ranked squads.
The defending provincial champion belle A team breezed through the competition
and advanced to the final by defeating Timmins 10-1, Exeter 11-1, Thunder Bay
9-0, Ottawa 11-1, London 6-3 and Ajax 6-0.
In the final, Jordan defeated Chatham 4-3 in overtime on a short-handed goal by Darcy Vidler with her team two players down.
"I was really lucky this year to have talented players right from the goalie, to the defence and through to the forwards. And they were very dedicated," head coach Jim Henry said. And unlike most ringette teams that have 15-16 players, Jordan had only seven skaters and a goalie. But the team prided itself on its fitness and kept in shape with a dryland training session every week. The majority of players on the team are from the Jordan area. Ashley Moes is from Virgil and Brock University students Danielle Proulx and Jodie Rafuse are from Timmins. "We didn't even know if we would have a team this year but the Timmins kids were exceptional players and they added a lot," Henry said. Four players from this year's team will graduate.
Point scorers in the tournament included Jen Haynes (32), Rafuse (29), Proulx (29), Jillian Henry (22), Vidler (10), Kyla Ames (3) and Moes (2).
Goalie Becky Kostecky allowed only nine goals in seven games. Helping Jim Henry coach the team are assistants Tim Kostecky and Irene Henry.
The junior A squad, which went into the tournament with an overall record of 24-3, went 6-1 in round-robin play defeating Ottawa 6-1, West Ottawa 5-3, Whitby 5-2, Gloucester 7-5 and Hamilton 7-3 while losing 1-0 to Oshawa.
Jordan and Oshawa tied in the round-robin forcing a 10-minute mini-game to see who would play Richmond Hill in the final. Jordan won 1-0 on a goal by Morgan Faulds. In the final, Christine Haynes scored all three Jordan goals in a 3-2 overtime triumph over Richmond Hill. "It was a good group of girls who loved ringette and enjoy playing together. And they were rewarded," head coach Jim Armes said.
At the start of the season, Armes was hoping his team could place in the top third in the province. Other than Faulds, all the players on the team were in their first year of junior play. "I knew we were going to be competitive but once we started to play, we realized we were really competitive and we thought we could take this the whole way," Armes said. Prior to the provincials, the team captured two golds and two silvers at tournaments.
Point scorers in the tournament were Samantha Carruthers (14), Nadine Marczi (13), Haynes (12), Brianne Addison (11), Faulds (7), Kori Armes (7), Tracey Neufeld (7), Janelle Thiessen (5), Joanna Albers (4) and Emily Eichner (3). Goalie Sandy Rottier allowed 17 goals in eight games.
Most of the girls on the team are from the Jordan area except from Addison and Eichner, who are from St. Catharines, and Faulds from Niagara Falls. All the girls on the team - the majority of which have played together for seven or eight years - are back except Faulds. Helping Jim Armes coach the squad were Chris Armes, Brian Haynes and Judy Haynes.

Belle B team wins
Richmond
Hill
Tournament
Jordan’s
Rempel Electric Belle B team was asked at the last minute to enter the Richmond
Hill tournament at the beginning of February. Never one to pass up a tournament,
we managed to scratch together a team. The first game Friday had Jordan play to
a 3-0 win over a tough Barrie team. Laina, Courtney and Kerrie scored for Jordan
with Alanna getting the shut-out. Saturday the team played Mitchell, who gave
Jordan a good game earlier in the year. With multiple goals from Courtney,
Brianna and Stephanie Adam and one from Brittany, Jordan took game two 8-1.
Samantha Carruthers played net, stopping a flurry of shots. The two wins gave us
a bye to the finals. On Sunday the girls faced Mitchell again. This time
Mitchell came looking to win. They played all-out the entire game. Jordan
countered with a strong defensive game allowing only two goals. Brianna scored
two key goals with Julia Easton getting the winner, giving Jordan a 3-2 victory
and winning the tournament. Thanks to everyone who trekked through the snow all
weekend long to make this possible.

Belle
A’s
Go
Three
for
Three
The Jordan Ringette Belle A team continued their winning ways taking the gold medal at their second and third tournaments of the season. Following their gold medal performance in Nepean in November, the Belle A squad earned gold in Whitby in January and in Richmond Hill in February.
Going undefeated through the Whitby tournament, the team won 2-1 against Mississauga, 7-5 over Richmond Hill, 7-3 over Gloucester and 8-1 against Ottawa in the round robin. Against Mississauga in the semi-final, Jordan skated to an easy 8-1 victory. The gold medal game was a 6-3 win over Richmond Hill.
The Jordan Pride also won all the games they played at the Richmond Hill tournament. Their first game was defaulted as their opponent from Hamilton did not appear. Game two was a 10-1 win over the team from Grey Bruce. Day two of the tournament saw easy wins against Cambridge (12-1) and London (11-1).
In the semi-final game,
Jordan skated to a 5-1 victory over Exeter . Jordan faced London in the gold
medal game, winning 6-2.
Six members of this eight player team contributed points over the course of the
Richmond Hill tournament. Jennifer Haynes had 13 goals and 14 assists; Danielle
Proulx added eight goals and 15 assists; Jillian Henry had 11 goals and nine
assists; Jodie Rafuse added ten goals and ten assists; Darcy Vidler had two
goals and one assist and Kyla Armes assisted three times. The forwards – Haynes,
Proulx, Henry and Rafuse – were relentless in their assault on net. The
defensive trio of Ashley Moes, Kyla Armes and Darcy Vidler kept shots to a
minimum. Goaltender Becky Kostesky had another outstanding tournament, allowing
only six goals.
The Belle A team has one more tournament in West Ottawa before their appearance at the Provincial Championships where they hope to repeat as Ontario’s champions.

Wow - Another great weekend for the Junior A’s!!
The girls once again earned gold – this time in the Gloucester Ringette Tournament held February 7-9. Jordan came out strong defeating the home team - Gloucester 7-2 in the first game. Chris Haynes and Tracey Neufeld each netted 2 goals with singles from Kori Armes, Nadine Marczi and Morgan Faulds. In the second game, Jordan was victorious over Pointe Claire by a score of 4-1 with goals from Joanna Albers, Janelle Thiessen, Sam Carruthers and Brianne Addison.
Congratulations to the entire team for an awesome performance!
The Jordan Junior A’s tournament record now stands at 17 wins and 3 losses. The four tournaments produced 2 gold and 2 silver wins for the team. The team will enter the Ontario Ringette Provincials in March ranked as the top Junior A team in Ontario.

Junior A's Capture Silver in Whitby
In
game one, Jordan faced the strong Richmond Hill team and defeated them by a
score of 4-2 with goals from Haynes (2), Marczi and Faulds. Ajax was the next
opponent and Jordan skated to a 4-2 victory with scoring from Haynes (2),
Neufeld and Addison. Game three was against the home team, Whitby, whom Jordan
easily defeated 6-2. Haynes had 2, with singles from Marczi, Carruthers, Addison
and Neufeld. Jordan went on to beat Mississauga in the final game of the round
robin 5-2. Marczi scored 4 times and Addison once.
This put Jordan in first place going into the championship game with Richmond
Hill. At the end of the game, the teams were tied 5-5 with 2 goals from Thiesses
and singles from Eichner, Haynes and Neufeld. This forced overtime where the
girls lost a heartbreaker and took home the silver medal. The defensive core of
Janelle Thiessen, Kori Armes, Emily Eichner and Joanna Albers played
exceptionally well and goaltending by Sandy Rottier was superb. Janelle Thiessen
was named MVP of the final game for Jordan!

Junior A's Win Silver in Dorchester
The Jordan Junior A Ringette team sponsored by Allberry Farms had another successful weekend winning silver in the Dorchester Tournament. The girls opened with a 7-4 win against the home team – Dorchester. In game two, Jordan faced Elora Fergus and played a very strong offensive game winning decisively 9-3. Their next opponent was Guelph, whom they easily defeated 6-1. The final game in the round robin saw them matched against a very strong and aggressive team from Richmond Hill. After a hard fought battle, Jordan came out with a 4-3 win which put them in first place as the only undefeated team going into the medal game. Once again, they had to face Richmond Hill and were only able to score once, losing 2-1 to take the silver. Nadine Marczi led the team in goals with 10, Chris Haynes, Sam Carruthers and Morgan Faulds each had 3, Brianne Addison 2, and singles from Kori Armes, Emily Eichner, Janelle Thiessen, and Tracey Neufeld. Goaltending by Sandy Rottier was spectacular with good defensive play from Joanna Albers.
JORDAN RINGETTE TWEENS WIN SILVER IN ELORA
The Jordan Tweens sponsored by Sawmill Golf competed in the Elora Fergus Ringette Tournament on Saturday, November 17 and were pleased to take away the silver medal.
The opening game, against Paris was won by Jordan by a score of 10-3. Both teams came out strong but the Paris team was just over taken by the strong goaltending and defensive and offensive playing of the Jordan team. In game 2 Jordan met the host team, Elora Fergus and again they came out on top with a 9-1 victory.
Game 3 turned out to be
the medal game, and was played against Waterloo, the other undefeated team in
the division. In an awesome show of skill and determination, both teams brought
their a-game and it was a back and forth battle for the lead throughout both
periods. Although hampered by questionable penalties, the Jordan girls stayed
focused on the game and by the end of the first period the score was tied at one
each, with Sherry Glenn (assisted by Leah Rasmussen) putting Jordan on the
board. When Waterloo scored early in the 2nd, they played an
effective defensive game and looked like they might just hang on, but with 4
minutes to go, Taylor Blatchley, with help from Sherry Glenn, scored the tying
goal. Waterloo fought back and with 2-1/2 minutes to go, scored another goal.
Jordan’s Blatchley answered back with an unassisted goal with 1:30 left on the
clock. With overtime less than ten seconds away, Waterloo’s Brianna Ducharme-Felts
snuck a rebound past Sarah Harvey to win 4-3.
Sarah Harvey was voted by Waterloo to be Jordan’s MVP. She was red hot in goal
for all three games.. The strong defensive core of, Casey Damude , Amanda
Comfort , Alleda Farrell and Leah Rasmussen all played exceptionally well.
Jordans strong offense consisting of Mary Armstrong , Taylor Blatchley , Rachel
Easton , Sherry Glenn , Logan Glover , Kaylee Maclellan , Erin Pedro , Stephanie
Taylor and Lauren Wellings all contributed to the games.
All the girls should be very proud of themselves for bringing home the silver
medal. It shows that determination and teamwork does pay off. The girls would
also like to thank all their coaches for a great day. WAY TO GO GIRLS!!!!!

The Jordan Junior A's had a
winning weekend - striking gold at the London Tournament!
The first game on Friday was against Dorchester. The girls showed a very strong
offence winning decisively by a 10-5 score. Mississauga was the next opponent
who came out very strong with a 2-0 lead. The girls got back on track and
scored 5 goals to win the game 5-3. The third game was against a very feisty
team from Gloucester. Despite Jordan's scoring in the last 16 seconds of the
game, the girls were unable to overcome the one goal deficit and lost 5-4. The
final game of the round robin was against a very large and aggressive team from
Richmond Hill. The girls were determined to play "their" game and came out to
win! After 30 minutes of play, they were victorious winning 4-3. This put the
team into first place entering the finals. Once again, they had to face the
Richmond Hill team. The girls, still on their adrenalin rush from the last game
settled into a calm and controlled game, dominating the play. When the buzzer
went, the score showed a 3-0 victory in the championship game!
The offence consisting of Nadine Marczi, Christine Haynes, Sam Carruthers, Brianne Addison, Tracey Neufeld, and Morgan Faulds was outstanding with everyone contributing to the success. Belle A Team Number One in Province
The Jordan Belle A ringette team went to the 2007 ‘A’ Provincial Championships with one goal in mind: bring home the gold medal. And they didn’t disappoint. The city of Chatham played host to this year’s championships, held March 22-25. Ontario’s top ten Belle A teams earned the right to compete for the provincial title. The Jordan Pride, a small-in-numbers, big-in-desire team of ten skaters and one goalie had a spectacular long weekend going undefeated through all eight games to capture the gold medal.
Jordan opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over Mitchell, and then followed up with a 7-2 victory over Nepean. On day two of the round robin, Jordan defeated Timmins by a score of 8-2, then beat London 4-3. On day three, Jordan rattled a confident Whitby squad with a 3-2 win and an easy 9-1 victory over Ajax/Pickering. With a perfect record, Jordan advanced to the medal round on Sunday. Still gaining momentum, Jordan faced number two Whitby in semi-final game one and skated to a decisive 4-1 win. Valley East won semi-final game two to advance to the gold medal game.
The final was an exciting game as dozens of Jordan fans with blue and white painted faces cheered the Pride on to a 3-2 victory capturing the Ontario title. Goaltender Becki Kostesky had an outstanding tournament allowing only 11 goals in eight games. Centre Stephanie Henry led all players at the championships in points with 11 goals and nine assists. Four other Jordan players cracked the top eight in points – Jamie Rafuse, Jillian Henry, Natalie Glazier and Jennifer Haynes. Forward Cheyenne Koppejan added seven assists. Offensively, the team was very strong putting up 35 goals in total. Defense partners Bethany Moes and Sarah Janzen and Kyla Armes and Darcy Vidler delivered solid performances all weekend holding off some strong shooters while each contributing several points offensively as well.
Head coach Jim Henry was thrilled with the team’s performance at the provincials coming on the heels of four straight tournament titles this season. Assisting with coaching duties are Kathy Janzen, Tim Kostesky, Mike Glazier and Irene Henry. The Belle A team is sponsored by Luey Greenhouse Services and Webley Construction.

JordanRingette’s Junior B team are this years SRRA champions. The team won the Southern Region’s Junior B banner this season by defeating Hagersville in the playoffs at the end of March. The first weekend of April brought the annual SRRA Regional championships tournament with all of the southern Ontario teams competing. The girls went into this series with a common goal, to finish an already successful season by winning the Regional’s tournament as well. With solid team play they did just that. Jordan met very strong teams in the round robin and went 2 for 3 with wins over Paris and Burlington, while losing to season rivals Hagersville. Both Jordan and Hagersville advanced to the final game on the Sunday. With what was a very fast paced game, Jordan held tight to beat Hagersville 2-1. This gives the team back to back Regional wins having won the Junior division last year as well. The team of 11 played exceptional ringette all year with a record of 25-4-3. This season saw them place 4 players in the top 10 points race along with goalie Alanna Carruthers denying opponents all season long, allowing only 6 goals during the Regioional tournament. The Junior win gives Jordan Ringette 3 championship teams this year, with a Regional win by the Novice’s and a huge provincial win by the Belle A’s. Thanks to all involved with the Junior team this year for such a great season, especially sponsor Rempel Electric.
