We had so much fun last year, we have
decided to do it again! Almonte and District High
School is holding its 2nd FUNdraiser Run
to help support our local Olympian Perianne Jones
once again and a grassroots charity called SchoolBOX,
began by Tom Affleck, also of Almonte.
Founded in 2006, SchoolBOX is a Registered Canadian
Charity that is dedicated to helping children get a
basic education. The organization is driven by a
sense of love and responsibility towards the
children, teachers and schools that are served.
SchoolBOX works in Central America where it uses
simple, cost effective programs to empower children
to go to school. By building classrooms, schools &
libraries; providing essential educational materials
such as notebooks & pencils; creating & equipping
sports and dental hygiene programs; and so much
more, SchoolBOX is ‘Making Education Possible’.

Background
Perianne stepped into her
first set of cross-country skis at just three years
old when she joined a Jackrabbit ski group in her
hometown of Almonte, Ont. A love for the outdoors
and sport helped propel the devoted youngster to the
next level in her sport. At 15, her family joined
the Nakkertok Ski Club in
Ottawa
and her career took off. Perianne quickly became
part of the racing team and competed at a high-level
throughout high school on both the Nakkertok and
Ontario
teams. Perianne is well on her way to fulfilling her
Olympic dream. The young Canuck, who had a very
successful stint on the Junior Canadian Team, is now
making her tracks against the best in the world.
Some words from Lynn Carss, Peri's high school
coach: "Peri is an incredible young lady who set her
sights on the Olympics from the time she entered
high school. She
exemplifies the term "sportsmanship". While at ADHS,
she competed in 9 OFSAA events, but what set her
apart was how she supported others. After winning
her races she would go back and run/ski in her
teammates. She always encouraged others to set their
own personal goals and strive to meet them. When back in Almonte, Peri continues to return to ADHS to run, ski with
younger ADHS athletes and has come into my Exercise
Science class to talk about the life and training of
an elite athlete. She continues to give back to the
Almonte community."
