Background
Becoming a personal trainer was as much a surprise to me
as it was to my family. Growing up I was not involved in
sports. In fact, I was so lazy I used to pay my sister 25
cents to go to the corner store for me, and it was 3 doors
down. The only exercise I did was walk to and from school
and that was because we did not own a car. My first
introduction to organized
training was when I joined the military. Talk about baptism
by fire. I was launched into hard core physical fitness and
although tough at first, I managed to survive and graduate
without being held back. Not one to quit (I'm a Taurus), I
have been into physical fitness ever since. I did a 5 year
stint in the military, at which time I left to become a mom.
I exercised 3-4 days a week throughout my pregnancy and with
the permission of my doctor I was back at the gym within 7
days of giving birth to my son. Thankfully my husband has
always been fit and we worked on a plan that allowed both of
us to continue to be fit even with a new born in the house.
My first professional fitness gig, was as an aerobic
instructor in 1987, but I quickly new that group fitness was
not for me, so I took a leave of absence as an instructor.
In 1999 I decided that since I love to be fit and people
were asking me for advice that I should get certified. I
knew that group fitness was not for me, so personal training
was what I decided I wanted to do and that is what I have
been doing full time ever since. I expanded my fitness
expertise over the years, by becoming an indoor cycling
instructor, Pilates instructor, Level 1 Triathlon Coach and
a duathlete, but my love is Personal Training.
Philosophy
I get great enjoyment out of introducing men and women to
fitness. It is exciting to see someone who never thought
they could become fit, reaching their fitness goals. This
excitement never fades for me, no matter how many clients
that I train.
I firmly believe in balance, and try to ensure that I work
with the clients to accomplish this. Every client has unique
circumstances, and designing a personalized program for each
is the only way that balance can be achieved.
I consider my relationship with my clients a partnership,
therefore it is important to me that we work together to
establish a routine that fits into their time constraints
and fitness level.
As there is a learning curve to becoming fit, I consider
education a key component to a client being successful at
reaching their goals. I provide advice and guidance on most
topics related to fitness.
