We have had SEVERAL requests (from those of you who were and were not there) for the DVD of the event...it is sure to be a box office best seller! If you are interested in purchasing a copy...and I suggest and encourage that you do, please email Steve Herc at stherc@serha.ca.

On a personal note, I would like to thank a few people who worked very hard on this event.....Cheryl Cameron, Luanne Rafferty, Lisa Spurr, Joanne Hargrove, Heather Leighton, Michelle Poirier, Carolyn Gautreau, Jenny McLeod, Noel Eustace, Shauna Cormier, Kim McCormack....I apologize if I missed anyone....but this fantastic team is responsible for the success of the event...and deserve a pat of the back (-: Also, thanks to those who brought prizes!

The reunion is now over and some of us are still recovering I am sure :) By all accounts it was a TREMENDOUS success with probably close to 100 in attendance.

For those of you who could not attend I highly suggest you get on "Facebook" (http://www.facebook.com) . A number of our former classmates have added pictures of the events to their "pages". Some of those include: Jennifer McLeod, Heather Leighton Waddingham, Joanne Hargrove MacDonald, Ken Price, Craig Cummings to name a few.

A CD of the weekends activities will be available. We saw a small preview on the Saturday evening and the final product is going to be a great item to have. I highly suggest you consider ordering yourself a copy (see link above). Money well spent... you won't regret it.

I will NOT be posting pictures on here. Much easier to do so on "facebook" where they are easily loaded and accessible as previously stated. So if interested join that group and contact one of the names mentioned above.

Hey Classmates! Just to update you on the time capsule. Apparently it was placed in the MHS Attic. However last year the fire marshall insisted that all contents be removed as it was considered a fire hazard. Nobody seems to know what happened to the contents after that. We will keep looking but it does not look hopeful at this time that it will be found.

Hey Fellow Former Classmates, plans are in the works for our 25 year reunion on Friday and Saturday August 8-9, 2008. As more information becomes available it will be added to this page. So PLEASE add this to your favourites and check back often. Below is a list of all graduates from the Graduating Class of 1983. We would like to contact as many people as possible to make them aware of the upcoming celebration.

If you know how to contact these people could you please direct them to this web page or this email address monctonhigh83@yahoo.com which will be checked weekly if not more often. As it gets closer to the time it will be checked on a more regular basis. If you know someone who does not have email could you please send along their contact information. If you know of anyone who is deceased could you please let us know so they can be honored as well in a special way.

If you want to volunteer to help out in any way use the email address above and someone will get in touch with you.

If you would like to leave your email address for others to find you or if you wonder what ever happened to that guy/gal who sat behind you in grade 12 English class click on "What's Happening" you may find him/her listed below. If you want to leave a note to have added to the "What's Happening" section just email us and we will update the site accordingly.

Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

Does anyone have a membership to "Classmates.com"?? There are over 70 of our former classmates listed on the site. Is there anyone who can contact those listed and direct them to this page??

Greg Daborn After getting off to an excellent start academically as I entered junior high school in the fall of 1977, my life soon changed as I became the target of intense homophobic bullying from my classmates. By the middle of the school year, my grades fell from a 90% average to a bare pass mark of 60%, a trend that would continue for me from that moment until I barely graduated from high school in 1983.

After graduation, I became employed in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning trade. Once I had put in a couple of years working in this trade I decided that it was time to go back to school and get some formal training for the vocation that I had ended up in. By now I had been able to blend in with my peer group and was not experiencing any direct grief from them over the gay issue, although I would often hear homophobic comments from them that were not directed at me. When I finally started trade school at NBCC Moncton, I rediscovered my ability to achieve a 90% average, and over the next decade I completed several trade courses at the top of the class.

After all of this, I worked for several years as a successful trade’s person alongside of my group of seemingly homophobic colleagues. This started to again become a source of stress for me. What if the guys were to find out? Could I loose everything I had worked so hard for? It was this stress that lead to my seven year battle with alcoholism and some subsequent bad choices that brought me down to rock bottom in early 2000. It was along this time that I ended up at the local GLBT bar in Moncton one evening, a place that I had frequented often, and wile having a few drinks with some of the guys I had got to know as friends, we got into a conversation about having a gay pride week in Moncton . From this conversation a committee was struck and Moncton ’s first ever Gay Pride Parade was set for June 17, 2000.

I remember getting up that morning and thinking that the day would be a disaster. Surely, the people of Moncton would bash us as we marched through the streets. But when the time finally came and we finally started down Main Street , something amazing happened. We were greeted by the people of Moncton with unanimous support. And as I walked along the parade route, my life changed in an instant, for this was contrary to everything I had been lead to believe and for the first time since 1977, I felt a real sense of hope in my life.

In 2001, I decided to let my name stand as president for that year’s pride committee because I felt it was important that others be given the opportunity to experience the liberation I had experienced in 2000. By now, my name was out in the local media as a gay rights activist and I was therefore totally out to all of my peers in my trade. Again, the support I received from the guys surprised me and this further empowered me to do more.

After three years on the pride committee and having learned a lot about community leadership from people like Eldon Hay , I accepted the position of Atlantic (male) rep for Egale Canada . For the next three years I worked hard at Egale to help advance many issues for the GLBT community, including such things as lobbying the Canadian government to change the Hate Propaganda Act and of course, the Marriage Act.

Today, I live a more private life and life is good. I still do a bit of activism when the chance comes along and the issue of equality rights for our and all communities is one that will always be very close to my heart. My email address is daborng@rogers.com

Carol Leslie Carol lives in Fredericton.
Lois MacCallum Losacco Lois is married and has lived in Africa for over 15 years. She was last "home" in 2003. In 2003 she wrote... From MHS,  I went to DAL, then U of Calgary. In 1990 I decided to spend 2 years with WUSC teaching in Malawi. Towards the end of that contract I met my husband Giorgio Losacco. He is from an Italian family who have been farming (tea, coffee, tobacco) since 1907. After another WUSC contract this time in environmental education for local schools. In 1994 I decided to change track & opened my 1st art gallery, La Caverna, promoting & marketing the fine art of local artists. Today La Galleria, in the Capital city Lilongwe is well established. This year (2003) another gallery will open in a Hotel and La Caverna to be relocated into a listed historic property, the oldest building in the country. I certainly had no idea what growth potential there was. The living situation here is challenging and often difficult to say the least. Tourism has declined and export of art is essential for long term success. This is not as trivial as it sounds. Vincent Chipale, a wood carver, has the only income in an extended family of 17. (Makes one realize how "lucky" we are in Canada!)

Email: bmacjohn@telus.net

After there I lived in St.Croix in the US Virgin Islands, Seattle and San Diego. I finally made it to Hawaii in 2004 and have been here ever since. After nursing for 20 yrs I opened my own business called Body Wraps By The Sea. I also own and manage a vacation rental here in Waikiki. No not married and no kids, still enjoying the single life!  My email is karenonoahu@yahoo.com .

Lost Grads and Where is the Time Capsule

Information Updated August 8, 2007

As time goes on and we are unable to "find" people we will post there names here... perhaps you will be able to help.

Does anyone know what happened to the "Class of 83 Time Capsule"?? Did someone take it for "safe keeping" at the time of graduation?? Organizers of the 10 year reunion were unable to find it and apparently it was "not" at MHS. We would like to have it for the reunion next August. If anyone has any idea where it can be found or suggestions as to where it may be, please let us know at monctonhigh83@yahoo.com . Thanks!!
