Distorted recording likely due to overly high recording levels. Occasionally when the actual performance sound level drops below a certain volume, the recording is quite good.

(a) These are stereo replay simulations utilizing the “creation” versions.
The first few seconds of both 1714 Over 1717 and 1713 Over 1716 has be augmented with the creation versions as the cassette version openings in both cases were truncated.
Fripp’s liner notes state that the two official pieces “Red Two Scorer” (an anagram of Tower Records) and “1986” were recorded at this performance, yet unexpectedly, neither piece is in evidence. Either this audience recording is from another performance or more likely, Fripp’s album liner notes are in error. There is also mention of a quote from the San Francisco Chronicle, which does place this show in this vicinity and time frame and virtually all other performances were recorded by some audient. It would also fit that they would mention a San Francisco Chronicle newspaper article that came out that day in Berkeley on the 30th, reviewing a show at one of the San Francisco dates. The discussion … though largely unintelligible mentions something about the use of synthesizers, which Fripp points out as untrue. Such an article coming out two days later (31st) would be highly unlikely. An educated guess is that Red Two Scorer and 1986 were actually recorded at Tower Records in San Jose, CA on July 31, 1979, the only other undocumented Tower Records performance in the area.
