This is actually two performances as opposed to a single performance as originally guessed,

as evidenced by the tape reel box notations written by Robert Fripp at the time.

It was labeled “5th and 6th of July 1979” according to Alex Mundy at DGM.

Based on historic evidence of typical Frippertronics performance lengths,

Fripp would create about 30 minutes of “new Frippertronics material”, then rewind the tape

and replay it in stereo while soloing on top.

As Loops I and II total about 30 minutes and Loops III and IV are also of a similar duration,

it is highly probable that these loops were recorded in the manner indicated above.

(One reel for two performances over two days)

The audience bootleg of a portion of a replay with solo from the WCMF performance (Loop III)

adds further evidence that this what occurred.

WCMF is an FM classic rock radio station broadcasting at 96.5 FM frequency.

WMCF is a typographical error.

An attendee of the WCMF performance informed us that Fripp had a very bad cold at the time,

which likely contributed to his reportedly lousy mood.

This did not appear to have affected his musical performance however as evidenced by this recording.

The cover photo is a detail from a set taken by Jay Kammen at a private gathering on June 15, 1979

at Stouffer’s Inn On The Square - Terminal Tower in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

This hotel is now the Marriott Renaissance Cleveland Hotel

A small amount of digital reverb has been added to these pieces during the mastering phase

to enhance the listening experience and more closely simulate a larger room environment.

Bootleg Audience Recording Note

This low quality audience recording of the stereo replay of the last half of Loop III (listed here as ‘1912’)

confirms that there was a “stereo playback with solo” portion of this WCMF show.

This backing loop can clearly be heard along with additional repetitive mechanical type soloing on top,

(similar to the style of The Zero of the Signified)

It continues until the backing loops stops and then carries on afterwards by a few seconds.

It has been remastered and pitch-corrected, but still remains a comparatively very low quality recording.

Loop III with Solo is 1912 synchronized with the official DGM backing loop

starting at 8:20 to the end of the piece.

No additional audience recorded material from this performance has surfaced,

although it is believed to exist with the taper from where this excerpt originated.
