Notes

The first official public Frippertronics performance date.

It is at this time unconfirmed if it is the first or second house,

but it is assumed to be the second unless proven otherwise.

So far, two sources have been discovered for this show.

The widely known bootleg “Pleasures in Pieces”

(title taken from part of the Mooncowisms dialogue) and

another cassette source that includes extra portions.

This cassette version as it turns out is at the correct pitch more or less

and the vinyl version (perhaps for technical reasons due to side lengths) was sped up considerably.

A pitch change of 1 semitone and 30 cents was required to correct it.

These new time lengths are reflective of this massive pitch correction.

A few missing segments between tracks and a short section

of playbacks where Fripp is locating the piece 1499 on the tape is included

from the higher generation cassette source.

The second show was not planned, but ensued as a result of the “4 block lineup”

in the freezing cold weather and the insufficient size of the room to hold everyone

at once.  Fripp generously offered to play “as many shows as necessary”

to accommodate.

Both shows were accompanied by performances of Joanna Walton’s Mooncowisms

which appeared in the middle of each show as “centerpieces”.

In this case between 1497 and 1498.

Remastered from “Pleasures in Pieces” vinyl bootleg LP in corresponding order to the tracks listed as “The First”, “The Second”, “The Third”, “The Fourth”, “The Fifth” and “The Voice”.

For all shows prior to the 1979 World Tour,  Fripp did not use signal by-pass switches.

These switches provided the ability to make “beeping” sounds or “square wave” volume envelopes, which were common to later performances.  All guitar notes here however were either “swept in”

via the volume pedal or played directly.

Stormy Monday has unearthed a great snippet of a pre-show “Test Loop” from this show,

which can be downloaded for free for a short while here

This backing loop was not replayed at either of these Kitchen 1978 shows and unlikely to have been used

at a later time due to the elapsed time until his next performance 14 months later.
