Descendants of: JACOB and MARY SMUCK

Jacob and Mary Smuck came to Canada from the United States in about 1795. They took an oath of allegiance and settlement on 25 Jun, 1797. They farmed in Glandford Township, Wentworth County, Ontario, from 1796 and obtained the land as an Upper Canada land patent in 1811.

A reference has not been found that records Rachel Smuck's birth date. The listing that follows may not show her in the correct position in the birth order.

The Family Name

Various references record the family name as Smuck, Schmuck, Smock, Smooke, Smoke and Smoak. Most of the later descendants use the name Smuck. The descendants of Peter use the name Smoke.

The Upper Canada Land Petition records Jacob's request for Concession 4, Lot 1, Glanford using the surname Smoke. Smoak was used for Jacob in an article in Volume 8 of Wentworth Bygones, pp. 66-68 titled "Crown Patentees of Glanford".
