     Ontario Marriage Register of 1859 to 1873 shows a Grace Black, daughter of George and Jane, born about 1839 in Scotland.

1900 Michigan census states that Grace had 6 children and 5 are alive in 1900.

Individual Note:
     Margaret Black was born April 8, 1845. She came to this country when 7 years old. The family made the ocean trip be sailing vessel taking 6 weeks; first location was Hamilton, Ontario, later on Garrison Road, some distancee from the city of Hamilton. In 1867 she maddied Nelson Heaslip, the son of an old established family of Wellandport, Ontario. He was never strong physically and at that time was Superintendent of schools. Doctors advised a move a northern climate and settling on the shores of Balsom Lake where they cleared a wooded section and put up a log house which became the birthplace of their 5 children. Nelson Heaslip became very prominent in the public life pf their community. He was a 33rd degree Mason, 16 years Warden of the County and, at the time of his death, 1/4/1890, he had been nominated as candidate to the Ontario legislature. In 1892, Margaret married Hugh Reed of Cococonk, Ontario. He died in 1905. Margaret Heaslip Reid died 8/14/1922 being preceeded in death by four of her children, survived only by her daughter, Elisabeth Ann Heaslip Miller.
To those who knew her life remember her sterling christian qualities. Her affections were set on things above andher life was given for others and Christ's church here on earth. A few years ago she transferred membership from Canada to the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Sardinia, New York which was the hometown of daughter Elisabeth Ann
