Clara worked as a cocktail waitress in the bar where George spent many hours (he was an alcoholic). He didn't particularly like the name Clara and called her his little Susie Q. We all knew her as Grandma Susie.

Clara had been married before and had four grown children when she married George. Her married name was Sands and her maiden name was Smith.
