Wizard and the Butterfly

It’s hot today, out it the sun,
Much too hot to jump or run.
I’ll just lie here beneath this tree,
And sleep until it’s time for tea.

I hear the birds sing in the trees,
And buzzing from those busy bees.
I see some ants, go hurry past,
Why do they always go so fast?

There’s something landed at my nose.
It’s not a petal from that rose,
It’s not an ant or bird or bee,
I think I’ll have to check and see.

I rise up slowly, stretch and stare,
It’s on that leaf! Look, just there!
I’ll jump across to say hello,
It didn’t wait, where did it go?

I see it now. I’ll have to run!
Although it’s hot out in the sun.
With this new friend, I want to play,
Before it has to fly away.

The colours on its wings are bright,
It really is a pretty sight,
But all my jumping is in vain,
It just gets up and flies again!

I hear a voice say with a sigh,
“Wizard, leave that butterfly.”
It must be nearly time for tea,
I hope that butterfly liked me!
